Thank You Note Time Window

When is the widely accepted time window for Thank You Notes? 2 months? 3 months?

Thoughts?

  • Ditto Mama B.

  • I know that's not time specific like you're looking for but to me, you can't really put a time frame on thanking someone for their generosity.

  • We just sent out the last of ours today.  The first batch was done within a week, the 2nd batch was done within 2 week; this was the last batch (wedding was on 7-17).
  • I have soooo many to do this weekend.  Boooo.

  • I'm almost done with baby gift TYs.  I keep thinking I'm done and then more gifts show up.  It takes a looooong time to do these compared to wedding TYs because I'm not always hands-free anymore.

  • Normally? It's like 2 days to send a TY. Or some people institute the rule of sending a TY note before using the gift. For weddings people tend to be a little more forgiving, especially depending on the number of guests, but it really should be ASAP.

  • Thanks, ladies! Just wasn't sure what the rule was. I plan to do as many as possible before the wedding and send them afterwards.

  • I expect a thank you note within about 2 months for a wedding.
  • If you receive a gift before the wedding you should do the TY as soon as you get the gift and send it right away.  That way the sender will know you got the gift and it was in one piece.

TYs for gifts received at the wedding should be sent ASAP after the wedding.  It wasn't clear from your post if you were planning to write the notes for as many as possible before the wedding, even if you hadn't received a gift yet.  If so, how will you know what gift they gave you, and therefore what to say in your note?
  • Ummm... no I wasn't going to write a TY note if I hadn't received a gift yet. I just meant that as I received gifts, I was going to write the TY notes.
