Tiered Reception Tales

Re: Tiered Reception Tales

  • OMG that is awful! I would feel so hurt. I don't ever expect an invite to anyone's wedding when I hear about engagements because I get how tough it is to afford to invite everyone, so I'd so much rather just not be invited!!

The closest thing I've ever been to a tiered reception was actually my best friend from college, but it really wasn't offensive I don't think - she started a new job about a month before her wedding, and she had two coworkers she had become closer with quickly. She told them she was sorry and she really wished she could invite them to the wedding but the venue was at full capacity already - so they offered the idea that they'd just come to the ceremony because it was outside and there were not the same limitations. She said ok and also invited them to stay for a drink and appetizers during cocktail hour afterward, and they did and they were happy with that, they left as we all went in to the reception. I remember thinking at the time that it must have been awkward for both them and my best friend, but at least it was discussed and agreed upon before the day.
