Tiffany's on Craigslist

Has anyone ever gotten anything Tiffany's or "Tiffany's" on Craigslist?  Has it been legit?  Is there any way to know if it is legit? Can I make the person meet me in a Tiffany's store?

I have so many questions.  I just saw a "Tiffany's" crystal ice bucket and champagne flute set for $150 and I was thinking it would make a great wedding gift that would help my summer of weddings budget.

Re: Tiffany's on Craigslist

  • You can make the persons meet you at a Tafinnay's store, and I would advice you too.

However, if it's a gift, I wouldn't risk it being a fake. I mean, imagine if it IS fake and they find out?

Tafinnays? Do they sell silver plated salt water taffy?

  • It's craigslist.  You can request they meet you anywhere and they can choose to accept and/or decline.  It's the internet, so you can never be too sure what someone is trying to sell you, so protect yourself.  If that means asking a Tiffany's sales rep if it's real, then that's what you should do.  I'm not sure they'd do it, but it's worth a shot.

Unless the couple would really like that gift, I think you can spend your $150 elsewhere, especially if buying this will be kind of a hassle for you.  They won't be able to return this item, so I would be wary of spending so much on it if you can't be sure they would like it and use it.

ETA: I don't mean to judge how much you want to spend on the gift, but I just am trying to say that I think your money can go further and you can get returnable stuff.  The last two wedding gifts we got on sale at Macy's--one was buy 1, get 1 free with 20% off china place settings (we bought 2 place settings for $150), and the other was buy 1, get 1 free + discount of wine glasses (we bought all 12 for about $150).
