Late RSVPs

My invites were sent out over a month ago, my RSVP date is July 1st, and I've heard back from very few of my guests.  Guests can RSVP through a wedding e-mail account or phone call (we provided both. Decided against inside envelopes and RSVP cards to save on paper and postage). The wedding date is August 21st, so it's not like I need an answer right at this moment, but I would like to start getting a good idea of numbers so I can start working with the hotel planning people.

I don't think I set my RSVP date too early, did I? Regardless, in people's experience, what is the avergae amount of people who RSVP late? I'm getting a little worried! Also, how long past the date to do wait before calling people?

Thanks

Re: Late RSVPs

  • Well, considering your RSVP date isn't for seven more days, I'd stop worrying right now - most people wait until the last minute when you give them a deadline for something, so you'll probably get a lot more RSVPs right around the day or so before your date. After that, wait a few more days, and then start calling people.

You did send your invites out a bit too early, but nothing you can do about that now.

  • I think you did set your RSVP date too early, but like pp said, there's nothing you can do about it now.  Wait until a few days after the RSVP date and then call people.  You should realize, though, that some people may not be able to commit that far out and you may have to call them back later.

My wedding is August 14th, our final count is due August 9th and our RSVP date is July 24th.  Just to give you an idea.

We're getting married on the same day.  I just finished stamping the invitations yesterday.  I'm only putting them in the mail this evening.  Our RSVP date is August 2nd.  When does your venue need a headcount?  Our venue needs our number 7-10 days beforehand.  We gave ourselves a week to call folks we didn't get RSVPs from.  Since you have the time, I'd suggest waiting a few days to a week after your date passes to start calling.

  • I agree your RSVP is a little early, but I did something similar, my wedding is Aug. 28, and my RSVP date is July 19 - but the hotel said they stop taking reservations on Aug. 13, and the reception hall needs a final count by then too.

I also purposefully left time in there because I KNOW some of my friends are slackers, and I won't get a lot of RSVPs back until about a week or two after the date.

People do stuff last minute - I'd wait until after about a week after RSVPs are due, then start calling people

  • Most of my guests didn't RSVP until a few days before the final date. I had to track a few down who said they assumed I knew they were coming (family members, not sure how I'm supposed to read their minds), and there were about 6 we didn't know until the day before the wedding whether or not they were coming due to traveling issues.

You still have some time left. And if you don't hear from everyone by July 1st, just start calling them and explain that you need to know because of hotel or other venues that need a final count.
  • You did set your RSVP date too early.  You should have sent your invites out around now, and your RSVP date should not have been until about 7/21 or later.

I'd wait until 7/21 or so to start calling.

  • Wow that was fast haha!

Thanks ladies! I thought it might have been a little early, but oh well. I won't stress and I'll wait a while before calling :)
  • I'm guessing people didn't notice that your RSVP date was so early and they aren't even thinking about it, assuming that they don't need to respond for another month.  Also, not having paper RSVP cards may reduce the number of people who RSVP at all because it may be seen as less formal of an event and therefore less important to respond.

I completely disagree.  I am not having RSVP cards and in no way is my wedding less formal.  I just hate opening an invitation and having a pile of papers to deal with.

It probably isnt less formal; but I would assume (if I were a guest) that it was; since the RSVP is untraditional.  Just an FYI

  • I too sent mine out early and the RSVP was June 1st and wedding is the end of July.  It was more for the out of town folks (majority of our invites) because the hotels around here book fast so I had a block held and they released the block June 15th.  I got the majority about a week after the RSVP date and still have a couple to go in fact one just came in today's mail.

So You're not the only one to send early.  Just give it maybe 2 weeks then make a few calls.
