Recommend your vacuum...

I've had my heart set on a Dyson animal vac, but I might have to go a little cheaper.

Thoughts?

We have a dog and a cat named Pot Roast.

My parents really, really love their Bissel Pet Hair Eraser.  Like, when I told my mom I wanted a Dyson, she shrieked (literally) and got out the Bissel for a demo.  Yup, a demo.

Yeah, if you have pets definitely get a dyson.  Doesn't have to be the pet one.  I know you said you can't.  But try.  Honestly.

We live in a rented condo townhouse and had a bissel or whatever beforehand.  We've had our dyson for 7 or 8 months now... we STILL get a full canister every.single.time.  That's how much crap was in the carpet and how little crap our bissel picked up. 

We vaccuum at least once a week but try for twice and we're still getting TONS of animal hair and dust.

I've had a dyson (regular one) since 2004 and it's awesome! It's been vacuuming up dog hair for 5 years with no problem. I love how strong it is plus how easy it is to clean out the tubes and the little wheel thingie that vacuums carpet, etc.

I am so glad they like the Bissel. Our vacuum just broke and that was the one I was looking at. I borrowed my dad's Dyson Animal on Friday to run through our apartment and was SHOCKED at how much pet hair it picked up off the floor. It looks like we got a new rug and I didn't even think the floor was very dirty. But I can't afford a $550 vacuum and we need one like right now.

My mom's a neat freak.  She hates the cat hair everywhere.  They actually just switched to laminate flooring throughout the house except for the two extra bedrooms (the master already had hard wood), and she still uses her Bissel on the laminate floor.  She's nuts.

We've been waiting for our current vac to crap out on us to upgrade to the Dyson. Every one I ask who has one swears by it, so I'm no help in swaying you in another direction

We have the Dyson Animal and it has worked wonders, but I have also heard nothing but great things about the Bissel.  If I would have bothered doing the research ahead of time, I'd have gone with that one myself

Dyson hands down! We bought the Animal with the ball this weekend and it sucked up 100 times what our old vacuum did. I wasn't excited about the cost of the Dyson either, but it's worth it.

DH had a Dyson (a pre-Ball model upright; it's blue) that kicks serious butt on Maggie's pet hair.  My mom and dad just bought a Dyson, too - I think they got a Ball, but I'm not sure. Also got the mini-vac thing, and mom really likes it.

I've heard good reviews of the Bissell, too.

Yeah, I think I should just go ahead and get the Dyson.  It will be worth it in the long run, and at Kohl's, they have the coupons that I could use.

We spent as much money on two so-so vacuums as we did for our dyson in 3.5 years.  So silly.  Just do it right the first time

If you didn't have pets I'd say who cares and cheap out.

Dyson Animal.  Hands down.  We have 3 long-haired women, a constantly-shedding black lab and two cats in the house, and we vacuum all the time.  I, too, wasted several hundred dollars on so-so vacuums that didn't work well.  I think my Dyson is worth every penny.
