The Non-HP post. Or at least the non-spoiler one.

I'm practically sitting on my hands not to look at the HP below with spoilers.  Can we talk about other things? :)

What's up for everyone's weekend?

Re: The Non-HP post. Or at least the non-spoiler one.

  • I was going to meet my friend's twins for the first time tomorrow, but now I'm second guessing it because I have a cold. I don't want to compromise them, or especially her- she had a really tough delivery and was very sick afterwards. Other than that there's a big 40th birthday party for a friend tomorrow night, and hopefully sitting around trying to get better on Sunday.
  • Me too, TR! We won't get to see it for a while, and I'm fighting the urge to open the thread.

I have to write a term paper. Sucks, but it's the last one I'll ever have to write. But aside from that, it'll be football-watching and lots of dance practice for DH and I.
  • I'm up for talking about other things.  Weekend plans: nothing!  I'm so excited, I think H and I are going to make pizza on Saturday night, drink some wine, and play scrabble.  We are always on the go so this will be perfect.
  • I need to hear more about this dance practice, Opal :)

Sowwy you have a cold, Manda.  Feel better!

I'm flying to NC for the weekend to visit my mom.  We'll probably just sit around and eat cookies.  I do have to clean out her crawl space, but that's the only work she's got lined up for me :)  I'm also taking her the first Harry Potter movie and the first two books because she's all of a sudden interested because her one friend who just visited her is all about them, apparently.

  • 'Canes game tomorrow vs. VT.  Should be a fun game.  I'm also doing a major cleaning this weekend. Boo.

  • TR, we've taken up competitive ballroom dance! It's fun and a great workout, but it's hard. We're learning literally about ten dances at the same time and it's difficult figure out how to do well in all of them.
  • Sorry, guys!

Manda, hope you feel better. Opal, good luck with the paper. TR, have fun with your mama!

I am running a 10k tomorrow. I have semi-trained, but it's at 5pm. Keeping in mind that it's the beginning of summer here, I don't know what genuis decided to move it from 9am (like all the previous years) to late afternoon when it'll probably be really hot. Then assuming I survive that, I've got a birthday party to go to later on.
  • I'm going to see HP on Saturday for a family friend's birthday, but other than that, not much. Next Friday I have surgery, so I'm going to make the most of this weekend.
  • I can't believe it's the weekend already. And that Thanksgiving is next week. KAH-RAZY.

I'm photographing a tree lighting event tonight, so that kills most of my Friday evening plans. I'll probably just go out to my local afterwards and get a couple beers.

Tomorrow H and I are having dinner with my family.

    Sunday is football. <3

  • I'm going to the cities with the hubster for a 4 day weekend. ♥ I love the cities this time of year. I'm kind of hoping for a little snow, BUT DONT TELL ANYONE I SAID THAT.

  • Opal that's so cool that you guys are dancing!  I wish I could get H to do that.  He gets so embarrassed when people watch him do something he's not good at.  So he would definitely not go for that.

  • No plans (thus far) for tonight.  I really need to cook up the pork roast in my fridge, though.

Tomorrow, H has the car for work, so I'm going to be mostly hanging around the house, getting some thank-you cards done and cleaning up, and knitting.  Then I have my friend's housewarming party on Saturday night.

Sunday I have to help volunteer at work from 9 - after 12 while H goes up to MA visiting.  I'm kind of sad that it's the first weekend we've been home after the wedding and he's off for most of it, but we are barely going to see each other.  :(  Oh well.

  • Yeah, I'm not opening the other thread either since I do plan to see the movie soon. :)

Tomorrow, H and I are going looking for a new place to live! We found 2 good looking possibilities online and are going to check them out. Then we're watching college football with BIL and H's grandma. Apparently the movie Open Range is on TV tomorrow night, and H has already made it clear that we're watching. Hehe.

Sunday is more football, and probably a new crock pot creation. I haven't yet decided what I'm going to make this time. :)

  • Fezz, he has no shame. Apparently. ;)

LTB, just stay calm and everything will be fine. Multi-tasking and getting stuff done in advance is your friend. And if you get too stressed, just keep in mind that you're the only one who knows what you had planned. If you don't get both kinds of bread made or something, no one will know.
  • Opal, that is so cool about the dancing! :)

Emily - good luck with the race, I'm a bad runner so I'm always envious of people who do those.  My one friend from work just did her 5th marathon in Chicago whenever that was this year.  Nuts.

LTB - I am missing the hostess gene and I really wish I had it.  I freak out at the thought of entertaining people, but I want to.  It's weird.  I guess just because my mom never did it so I have no idea how to get multiple things to be ready all at the same time, plus have a nice clean and decorated house.

  • Opal, I am so incredibly jealous. I have dabbled in ballroom in the past, and I participated in one competition as part of the University of Delaware's team, but I feel like I'm never going to get any better without a steady partner, and FI just doesn't have time to learn right now (plus he is a little reluctant). I'm hoping he has more time after he retires from skating.

What dances are you learning right now? What do you like best? Least?

I am alone this weekend because FI is still in Calgary, but thankfully I know about free Thanksgiving-themed wine tastings on Saturday and Sunday at two different stores, so I am going to go. I love trying new wines. :)

  • Did you guys see the "American Talk" video with the HP actors?  It was pretty funny when they got to the "Twilight Sucks" portion of it.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Opal, I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist on some video.   That sounds so great!

H and I took LindyHop lessons awhile back, and it was super fun but we haven't kept up with it at all.  We have, like, two signature moves that we can do and we just repeat them continually whenever we dance.  It's kind of sad.

I'm kind of going to be single mom this weekend - H is hosting a bluegrass jam tonight and then going to watch the Michigan game at a friend's tomorrow and then his band is playing at a party tomorrow night.  By Sunday he'll be wrecked and probably sleep a lot.
  • Sarah, we started out with the standard/smooth dances, and by now we've learned all of them except Viennese waltz. We don't have a ton of moves yet, we're just focusing on technique and all that. Foxtrot is probably our best, we placed really highly at our first comp. We bombed our second, but oh well. It happens.

I'm also really enjoying quickstep. I have a feeling I'll get to liking tango a lot more, but right now we suck, so it feels a lot more like work.

We just started learning Latin, and we're only doing rumba and cha cha for now. I LOVE cha. DH hates it. So we'll see how that goes.

OWN, I'll see what I can do. We have a videographer around at the comps sometimes, but I haven't figured out what they actually do with the video. I'll definitely get pics at our next comp though. It's the first one where we're allowed to wear costumes, and I have this awesome dress for my standard/smooth events.

  • Aww, now I'm even more jealous! I never got around to learning Viennese Waltz or quickstep - my smooth repertoire basically consists of foxtrot, waltz, and tango. Foxtrot is my favorite because I love the music, and I'm hoping we do a foxtrot as our first dance at the wedding. I think you really will start to love tango once you get it down, because the combination of the music and the moves just makes your body feel incredible.

I'm not as good at Latin, but I do really love the cha cha. I think the rumba may actually be the hardest Latin dance, because while the moves are easy, the slow tempo of the dance puts all the technique out on display, and if it's not there the dance just looks boring. Not sure if I have my rumba hip action working yet. :)

Eeeeeeee!! I'm so excited for you. :)
