Rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

I see all this info about rehearsal dinner wording, and I know what i want to do on the invite for the DINNER, but how do I get the word out to everyone about the actual rehearsal?? Do I just do word of mouth and then ONLY send out an invite to the dinner? I want JUST the necessary people at the rehearsal (don't need a crowd!), but spouses and stuff are more than welcome to come to the dinner afterwards. Help!

Re: Rehearsal and rehearsal dinner

  • We just did word of mouth for the rehearsal.

  • I think my sil sent out invites to everyone for the dinner. We just did word of mouth for the wedding party since there were only 5 people other than H and myself.

    Don't over think it :)

Does this mean no spouses at the rehearsal, just at the dinner after?  Some couples may have a problem with that.  Are they all close to the place in which you are holding the dinner?  Are any of them OOTers?  You can definitely give them the rehearsal details via a phone call, but I think it may be awkward to tell them their spouses are only welcome at the dinner.
  • Ditto PP.. most people like to carpool with their S/O and it would be rude to exclude them.  Unless there is something to do across the street from the Church.. where are they suppose to go?

To answer your original question.. yes.. include all info.  Make it easy on your WP and don't make them have to remember the time (location is obviously the same as the wedding).  I got an RD invite to my sister's wedding, but no info about the rehearsal was included.  I have asked her more than once this week about the time.

You don't need the headache of late WP members.. especially if they only give you 30 minutes for rehearsal time.
  • My MIL sent out store bought invites for our RD. I think she got them at Party City.

On our invite (we did ours more so to inform everyone of places and times), we just said "Please Join Us for the wedding rehearsal of _____ & _____" then listed the hotel where the ceremony is and time to be there.  Underneath we put "Rehearsal Dinner to immediately follow at ________".

I really didn't care if this was the "right" way to do it! lol.  I just know its helpful to have places and times so that people can plan accordingly!  We're inviting everyone to the rehearsal that we're inviting to the dinner because some of our bridal party is from out of town, so its impossible to invite JUST them and not include their spouses for the whole thing. Every wedding either I or FI have been in we both have gone to the rehearsal.  I wouldn't want to tell someone only they can come, and their spouse has to meet them at dinner.

  • If I were an OOT WP member I would like A) To have the rehearsal info with the RD invitation, and B) for my significant other to be allowed at the rehearsal. All they will do is sit there wondering when you all will finish so they can eat. It won't be disruptive.

Also, you should change your SN to something that doesn't include your email adress or full name. People could easily use that information to look you up on the net.

  • Well, I don't think it's THAT unreasonable, only because our rehearsal  is like 30 min away from where the dinner is, and all the people that are coming to the dinner and rehearsal all live where the dinner is being held. No OOT people will be at the rehearsal, but I guess I should just not worry about it. Just wondering how other people did it-seems weird to have all the spouses there just....doing nothing.
