Happy Memorial Day!

Good morning! It's 4:30am on my first day off work since I got this job. I hope you all are sleeping in and expecting awesome weather today! :)

Today is my brother's birthday, so I'm heading over to my parents' house later for a birthday BBQ. Mom and I will probably sit out on the back deck in the sun, it's supposed to be gorgeous here in MI. Finally!

So hey - H has been off work since he got done with that crazy night shift in March. He got called up over the weekend and left at 4am today (which is why I'm up at this ungodly hour) - they put him on a natural gas pipeline project that's going in 150 miles from here. The good news is that he'll be working normal daytime hours. What sucks is that he'll be staying out there and this job could go all summer, if not up to the first snow. Oy.

So I'll probably be spending a little more time around these parts for a while. :)

  • Ooooh Hai.  I expect that today will be super dead around here.  But guess what?!

LOOK AT THE TICKER.  TODAY IS EPIC MEETUP OF PANDA AND SNIP. OMG.

If the world ends, blame us.  That's right, I said it.  BLAME US. WE WILL BRING THE RAPTURE.
  • Hahaha oh that's right!! I hope you two have so much fun! I've missed the posts/plans for this... who travelled where? :)
  • Have a great Memorial Day I can't wait to get back to MI and enjoy the weather!!! No place in the world better than northern MI weather in summer!
  • I hear you there, hellerc! We have a cabin in the U.P. and go up there every summer. I never want to leave.

  • Yay!  Have fun Snippy and Manda and Mr. Panda!

I'm up super early to go to the beach with H, my sister, and some friends.  Hopefully the traffic won't suck too much.  I'm excited, I haven't been to the beach since LAST Memorial Day.

  • Morning.    I have to work tonight.   Boo.  I also really have to figure out what I'm keeping here and what is going to be packed up.  They come in 2 days, I really need to get my butt in gear.  I think I'm slacking because i'm in denial.

DH is going golfing for the last time here.  The groom gave him an awesome putter with this name engraved.   He is like a little kid at xmas and can't wait to use it.

  • Good morning - another one who is beyond thrilled that we will actually have great weather in MI.  It has sucked for weeks.

We are going to a parade that our son will be marching in.  He is in Boy Scouts and will carry the Army flag this year.  The route ends at the cemetary where they will have a flag burning ceremony at the end for flags that are no longer serviceable.

Then we are just going to come home and BBQ.....in nice weather.....with no coat or crappy wind.  Yesssssss
  • lynda- That putter sounds sweet! H would love something like that.

kmmssg- We are way overdue for some nice weather. How close were you to that storm/tornado yesterday?
  • We are in Ionia county (practically neighbors!) so the Northern tip brushed us.  My 2 oldest DD's live in Calhoun county so I'm sure they got hit with the storm at least.
  • happy memorial day! :) im off, but H isnt....boo. getting some stuff done around the apartment!

I'm actually in Holland... TK picked out GR for me when I set my account up. We're so unappreciated here in the dutchland. Haha. We got a decent storm but nothing like my sister in Battle Creek. She was out camping with her kids and they saw the funnel cloud go right past them. Yikes!
  • Happy Memorial day to you guys.  I'm at work, because our long weekend was Victoria Day last weekend.

I expect it will be slow here today since nobody is at work, but me apparently.

Have a great meeting day Snippy and Manda!  Pictures!

  • As much as I'm denial about this move I have to say I'm ridiculous excited about biking.   Living in the islands I'm a little isolated.  I just found out about the 2-day bike rides in TX and LA for Multiple Sclerosis .   My friend who is moving to TX and I are going to train for it.    Has anyone done one of those events before?

  • Snippy, that's really cool that they were able to go all that way!  Hope you have a great time!

We are family functioned out from so much the last couple months, so we are just staying home and grilling for just the two of us.

  • I'm at work, Habs! Well, technically I am at home because my stomach hurts, but I am working and will be chained to my computer until 6pm. We can bash all those lazy Americans with the day off :)

Snippy, have so much fun with Manda!!!
  • Haha emily I'm totally cool with you bashing me for being lazy today. My biggest problem at the moment is trying to decide whether I should get in the shower, paint my nails, or go to the store for more stuff to keep drinking mimosas.
  • Yes!  I'm not the only one at work!  Sweet!

It's finally beautiful weather here.  I had a church shower yesterday.  I'm beyond shocked at how generous people are.  When I showed Fl all our loot, he almost passed out!

  • Ok AK, that sounds like a lovely problem to have. I really wish I had the day off today. I had my soccer team over for a bbq on Saturday which was really fun but ended up going from 2pm-12am because some friends of Rodolfo's came over later, so I feel like I only really got Sunday as a day to do things.
  • Morning, all. Snippy, enjoy your day with the Pandas.

I'm off today, but H isn't. But he gets to go to a Braves game, so that is some consolation for him. We are doing a picnic at the lake this afternoon, and would LOVE some dessert suggestions.

Good morning ladies!  My dog woke me up this morning, silly little thing.  Snippy, I'm so excited for you and the Pandas!
  • Morning!

I've missed you ladies. Has anything fun or juicy happened?

Well, H made it back from GA. It was a whirlwind trip. BIL, FIL and I left Friday night after work and drove through the night. We got to our hotel at 8am Saturday, rested and loaded the truck with all of our stuff. Talk about no sleep. Then we were on the road yesterday morning by 8am. Just like old times, we had a bon fire last night. I only had a few drinks and I was out.

Today, we are having a cookout and the rest of the family is coming over. Fun times. Just like the good old days.
  • Good Morning.  I'm sad and I need a college football team to allow me to be a guest fan this season.  Any takers to let me on your team?  :)

  • Morning everyone.

Yesterday FI and I spent the day with my family so today we're going to spend the day with his. I just found out my sister has started posting on my local board. Let's hope she doesn't find E.
  • Stacks you can join my team!  JoePa will take you!  I was surprised about the announcement, yet not (if that makes sense).
  • Good morning! My bachelorette party was this weekend, and now my sister is here hanging out and helping me with last minute wedding stuff. I can't even believe we're only 5 days away!
  • What'd you do for your B-party?
  • I just read the conversation about My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding over on SB, and I was interested by how little a lot of people knew about gypsies. I'm not an expert or anything, but I think there's just a little more awareness of the culture in England (where most people really don't like gypsies), so I know the basics, whereas a lot of people were surprised by that stuff.

I don't have a particularly profound observation to make about it, it was just an interesting little moment of realizing that that particular knowledge is probably something I picked up from my English family and not in the US.
