I apparently missed a bunch of stuff. I'd read the unpopular opinions thread, but I'm afraid it will just piss me off. WOULD IT!?
Posted by crfische
It didn't piss me off, if that helps.  I just thought it was way long and started skimming around...oh page 2.  So I might have missed something anger worthy, but it doesn't seem like it.

• Unpopular Opinions yesterday turned into a big supporting the war vs. supporting the troops debate. There were some great points being made, but it got dull.

If you want some crazy, read "Should an etiquette board have etiquette" or whatever the hell it's called now.
• TJ!!!! I totally meant to comment! I saw your dress post, but way, way late.

I LOVE THE CHOICE! I think it's great.

Now, drop your damn grudge, will ya?

Comics. Mostly, being young, he's writing vaguely self-indulgent autobiographical comics of the kind that have been very popular of late, but he's moving away from those more and more. He's applying to an illustration program in the TO suburbs this year to get his artistic technical skills up to where he wants them to be. I just wish he'd get over his anti-theatre people bias and take a scripting workshop or something, because his writing is the weaker part of his projects.

I'm not sure he's thought about his Draperian goals in such accurate detail, although he has the drinking thing covered.

Yeah I think some kind of writing or scripting workshop would be good for him, its essential to a good script and regardless of how good he thinks his ideas are... that doesnt mean publishers will, or readers. How old is he?
• 23, almost 24. He has two years of a philosophy degree and a year of west-coast art school.

(e.g. on previous art school experiences: They had a "subversive art" class where they were given spraypaints and name-tags for experimenting with graffiti: but they couldn't actually mess up school property, so they put up butcher paper all over the room. He picked up a name tag, wrote, "My name is Banality," and walked out. All he really wants is a place with a life drawing studio.)

I have a theatre/playwrighting background before this whole doctorate thing, so I admit I'm nitpicky. I won't talk to him about it until he's accepted to his program, though, since he has enough to do building his portfolio to their specifications.

...and I already got big sisterly fretting on him about how the dirtiness of his bedroom was bad for his asthma, so he's probably sick of me by now. Now, the burned duvet smoke and down flying around the apartment after the Valentine's day fire: that was good for his asthma.

Valentines day fire? I missed something here...

He just seems like an angsty artist but I dont "get" a lot of artists to be honest. My husband has been into comic art forever, longer than the 6 years weve been together thats for sure. Its all come down to his connections he has made and his portfolio which he has been working on for 7 or 8 years. He will definitely need to work on that.
• I think I mentioned the fire above: his roommate's girlfriend lit candles all around their bed for valentine's day, and the duvet caught on fire. It was amazing.

• FFF=Flame Free Friday. Basically, it's a free for all on flaming. Say whatever about whoever. I don't know what the official "rules" are. Read the thread. You'll get a feel for what the concept is.
