In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions? : Stephen Lynch is hilarious. I have all his CDs. I love his gynocology song, getting grandpa's money, and the one about farting with his girlfriend. Man, that makes me sound like such a bad person!

Stephen Lynch is fantastic.  He had a show around here two days after my birthday and I told Mr. Arb that tickets to that were the only thing I wanted.
I've always assumed so many people adopt from other countries because it's so much easier and because there's a much lower chance of the birth parents taking the child back, but I certainly don't think people should get publicity or extra bonus points for adopting from another country.

For sure. It's also a much shorter wait list if you want an infant. You want a 7 year old with behavioral problems in the US? You can have one in a week. You want a healthy infant? You could be waiting 8 years.

Back in the early 19th century, lobsters were seen as akin to rats. It was considered cruel to force prisoners to eat them more than once a week or so. They are like the insects of the sea!
In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions? : I agree with the counseling part, probably.  As far as the fee, does she propose $1000 every time you want a kid, or just a one-time payment for as many kids as you want?  I'm intrigued.
    Posted by Sing2phins
You know, I don't know. It was mentioned kind of in passing and I didn't have the time to press. I got the feeling she meant per kid. She was venting over women on welfare who have kids so they can milk more money from the government and said they should have to pay a fee.

OWN, I never thought of it that way. My irritation stems more from the fact that they seem to do it because it's "in" and gets them in the papers. And after doing some volunteer/shadowing work with DCF, and seeing how screwed up the system is, if I were adopting I sure as hell would want to get a kid out of there and into a good home.

No, its really not. My cousin adopted two babies from Korea (one is my Godson :). It took 3 years to get her first son and 2 years to get her daughter. It also cost her and her husband over $20k both times. There are full FBI background checks, constant unannounced home checks, lawyers fees, expedited passports, plane fare for both the baby and chaperone, etc. With her daughter, she was told she was ready in November to come to the US but with the holidays they had no chaperones to take her. So my cuz literally called me at 1 in the afternoon and said I'm going to Korea to get my daughter. And she did.

They chose Korea because in NV (where they live) the biological parents had up until 2 years to change their minds. (dont know if its changed, the kids are now 6 and 4) After 6 miscarriages and 2 years of trying and testing, they couldnt emotionally handle watching their backs for 2 years. I get that. I loves those little ones more than anything.

I freakin' love you.  Probably because I'm the employed one, but yeah, job hunting might take 2 hours or so of my FI's day, but I'm still working for another 6 hours after that.  I know life isn't fair and all that nonsense, but I think it should be a little fair in that he should put in a balanced amount of time into maintaining the household.

Knowning how to use Photoshop does not make you a good photographer.  Take away the filters and "quick fix" and you have an average photo that's no more remarkable than any other snapshot.

I hate Facebook status updates about what you cooked for dinner.  If it was that good and we all really cared, you'd be on the Food Network.  Scratch that.  You'd have a high end restaurant in NYC.

What good timing for this post.
