How to tell guests scent free zone?

Re: How to tell guests scent free zone?

  • Thank you everyone for your opinions and suggestions.
In my daily life, I remove myself from the situation if i"m around people who are heavily scented. (In my personal case, aerosols and perfumes, particularly axe, cause my personal issues, which, although we have large well ventilated venues, won't save me from the many people myself and my family will be around.) As well, after choosing our guest list, my FMIL added 50 people I've never met from my in law's side, most of whom live in Alberta, and I haven't met. I would like them to be aware, and not have my family ill or hospitalized because it's better to tell them to carry an epi pen than let people know there are severe allergies.

[QUOTE]I'm sorry, but this is one time where you need to - politely - tell the Emily Post-weilding etiquette vigilantes to... A close friend of my was married two years ago, and due to her aunt's severe allergy to scents, they put a small line on the invite to ask guests (respectfully) not wear any. I can't remember the actual wording, but I was in no way inconvenienced by this stipulation, nor did I think it was a breach of etiquette.

I don't think anyone was answering from an official etiquette stand-point. I don't even know if there IS an Emily Post answer for this. This whole discussion seemed to be people's personal opinions about the situation.

It does sound like there are some people who won't know about the issue if you don't inform them. GL and I hope your wedding day is allergy-free! =-)
