Uhm, good thoughts?

I'm getting married this weekend.

I just got a phone call from my mother. (Nobody has died, which was my first thought.)

Turns out she got really sick this weekend, they sent her to the hospital, and they removed her gallbladder last night.

She's doing well, and she says she's definitely coming to the wedding. But... good thoughts for her? It would be great if she were released tonight, then she could still travel with my father and he could do all the suitcase carrying for her. Otherwise he's flying in tomorrow and she's flying in Thursday (so she claims; I don't know if she'd be able to get a ticket so short notice, with the G20 in Toronto).

  • Oh dear! I'll definitely be thinking lots of good thoughts for your mom. How far does she have to travel?

  • I'm sure she'll be great. :)  I had my gallbladder out and it wasn't too bad.  She might have trouble eating without getting a bit ill for a while.
  • I'm so sorry! My mom had to have that surgery a few years ago - it's not easy! Healing and positive thoughts to your mother!!

  • Five hour flight-- San Fran to T.O.

    At least it isn't driving.

Ah I was just going to ask if driving is possible if something goes wrong with her flight. Looks like not. :(

Yeah, we're trying to make sure someone can go out and get her in Buffalo, if she can't fly to Toronto. It isn't too long a drive.

Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone! I think I'm still recovering from my initial panic from when she said, "I have some bad news..."

  • If it was a laparoscopic procedure, she should be feeling okay - not 100%, but probably enough to be there. I'll send good thoughts. If she's already home, then that's what she had.

Old fashioned way (like how I had), she'd still be sitting in the hospital, eating jello and broth. With a big ol'  7" incision.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • The day I had my gall bladder out I took a 6 hour car ride so I could be with FI at his grandma's funeral the next morning. I wouldn't recommend it, in fact it sucked, but by a few days later I was fine to travel. Good thoughts your mom's way, but I think she'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure it was laparoscopic. She was still at the hospital when she called, but it was only 10 am PST and she only had the surgery last night.

She was probably working, too, knowing her.

I know it's probably not a major deal, but-- as I said, adrenaline panic that it was going to be something more major. And I can't panic on facebook, because my grandmother, who loves medical horror stories, is on facebook only to read status updates (she never updates her own, but she does talk to me about mine.)
