RSVP info: is it mandatory?

Sorry, all in here today because my mother is texting me questions haha.

RSVP cards, are they mandatory?
We are offering online rsvp

Is it so bad to offer email or phone rsvp?

If doing RSVP cards is mandatory is it mandatory to put SASE in there as well? That seems like a total waste if most will rsvp online or by calling to congratulate anyhow..

What are my options with this because we already picked STD cards to order and know our invitation design but not sure if it's worth buying the same amount of RSVP cards

  • You don't HAVE to do RSVP cards, but if you have a lot of older folks who aren't internet savvy or don't have the internet, an online RSVP will be a problem.  You are the one who knows your audience :).

If you are doing RSVP cards, yes, you should include an SASE.

No one has responded to us by calling to congratulate us, though we've gotten a couple FB messages and one on our web site.

If you're doing a formal invitation, you should do RSVP cards.  If your wedding is more casual, I think online is okay.

ETA: But if you have online RSVPs, you should include a phone number as well for those who don't go online.

  • I think the option of online or phone RSVP is fine. I would do a separate card with information telling people to respond in that way.

If you do a physical RSVP card, you should include postage. However you can also make them into post cards, so the postage will be cheaper.

  • I like RSVP cards.  Even though I obviously know how to use a computer, I like filling out the card and dropping it in the mail.
  • Look at it this way:

Computer glitch/power outage/virus=wrong amount of plates at reception/wasted money or underestimate.

I wouldn't want that kind of drama with something so important.  I would do the paper RSVPs.

If you want to do electronic 'anything', then do the shower or rehearsal dinner invites through Evite.
