Wearing wedding dress after reception..

We are having a small wedding with a dinner reception at a nice retaurant in a private room which will end at 7:00 p.m with no drinking.  My fiance and I and our friends are planning on going to a few bar/restaurants afterwards near our hotel.  Is it weird or tacky to wear my dress??

I don't think it's tacky, but I think it depends on what kind of dress you have. I would find it very odd to see someone in a bar in a full ballgown but maybe not so odd if it was a cocktail dress.

What does your FI plan to wear? If you're going to wear your dress I think he needs to be equally dressed up.

  • Wear it.  Seriously, you'll only get to wear it once, and why not?  It'll be a blast, I think Stage is right.  I bet you'll get a lot of free drinks from congratulatory bar patrons. ;)

How "bridal" does your dress look?  If there's another wedding going on at those venues, you won't want to be wearing your dress.  Also, even if there isn't another wedding going on there, while it wouldn't necessarily be "weird" or "tacky" to wear your dress, two undesirable things could happen: 1) it will get you unwanted attention from strangers and 2) you run the risk of damaging it.  Of course those things could happen anyway, whatever you're wearing, and might not, but it's something to think about.
  • I'm wearing mine everywhere we go until FI takes it off .

Totally agree. I was planning on wearing mine out to a bar after the wedding, but we didn't end up going out because it was raining and we were exhausted. I wore it for a few hours when we got home, though. My cat was terrified of my dress and wouldn't even come out from under the bed to eat his dinner. Oops. :)

  • Yup, I wore mine out afterward and it was super fun.  We went and looked at Christmas lights with the "just married" sign in the back window, then went to H's work to see the people who had to work so couldn't attend the wedding, and then we went out with friends.  Totally recommend it.
  • I wore mine out to the bar afterwards! It got filthy, but I didn't care. It was a fabulous time.

Though that is something to think about, if you are worried about irreversible stains, don't wear it to a bar. People can and will spill on you. Wink I had a bunch of drip marks down the back from people hugging me with a drink in their hand.

[QUOTE]And for the record, mine was a full on "bridal" ballgown with a A-line skirt and a french bustle.  I got white tennis shoes with rhinestones on them from walmart to wear out that night because I knew I wouldn't want to be in open toed shoes or heels at a bar.  I was very very drunk by the end of the night and still managed to keep my dress spill free.  I also received no "negative" or "unwanted" attention from strangers.  But that's just my experience.

<div>Ditto to all of this except I wore flip flops.  Don't wear flip flops in a bar bathroom.  </div>

  • Do it!  I've been out afterwards where brides have worn their dresses and they loved it.  Even as a bridesmaid I had a blast being dressed up in the bars.
  • Thanks for all the positive comments!! I cant wait to wear my dress all night! 11 more days!

  • I tend to buy a round of drinks when I see a bridal party out so I definitely say go for it.

  • I totally wore mine out to the bars once the reception was over with.  I loved my dress and wanted to wear it for as long as I could.  Like a PP said, you only get to wear it once so you might as well get your monies worth out of it.

  • I would wear it. You'll never get that chance again. Like a PP pointed out, I don't think you'd really get negative attention; if anything, you might get free drinks out of it! I think it would be fun and had we gone out after (it was already midnight when the reception ended), I totally would have sported my gown.

  • Wear it.

Some of the most fun we had was walking into the hotel in our finery.  I was still in my dress, my husband in his tux.  A lot of people stopped us to congratulate us, tell me I looked pretty, etc.  It was a lot of fun.  People react in a very positive way to brides and grooms in their finery.

  • I wore my huge, "bridal" gown out to the casino after my wedding. Our whole wedding party came with us, all in their bridesmaid dresses and tuxes, as well as a few family members in suits. Our only problem was one gentleman thinking my cousin was an actor because he looked like a bodyguard.

My H's cousin's wife wore her dress out to the bar on her wedding night. I didn't go, but MIL said that some drunk guy actually hit on her a few times and wouldn't take a hint to f off. She didn't go out WITH her husband though, so that probably affected the situation.
  • If I see a Bride and Groom in a bar, I send them a glass of champagne.  Go for it and enjoy!  Congratulations!

  • I wore mine out to our after party, which was at a tiki bar on the beach.  I finally ran across the street to our house and got out of it when I realized the reason my shoulders were hurting was because the straps had literallly cut into them and they were bleeding.  I through on something comfortable and ran back to the tiki bar.

The next morning, my gown was hanging from the hook DH put in the ceiling and it was unbelievably filfthy!  Pieces of beach garbage hanging off it, etc.  It brought back awesome memories, LOL.
