Inviting Ex-SILs

Some friends told me that it's not good to invite my ex-sisters-in-law but I am torn because I really like them and they even invited me and my Fiance to visit them. My fiance is okay with inviting whoever I want to invite but I'm thinking that his family might not be okay with it. Any thoughts?

Re: Inviting Ex-SILs

  • Are the ladies in question your brothers' ex-wives, or your ex-husband's sisters? Because most people wouldn't really think twice about the former situation, but the latter might get you a side-eye.
  • If they are your friends, then  invite them. Yes, inviting your ex's sisters (I'm assuming) is strange, but if they are your friends that shouldn't stop you.

  • I say invite who you want to invite. Don't worry about what's "right" or not. If it will make you happy, then I say go for it.

    It's your wedding afterall!  :)
  • Thank you for all your feedback! :-)
  • I wouldn't advertise that they're your ex-SILs.  Just that they're friends.

  • I don't think anyone will know that they are your ex-sil at the wedding unless it is pointed out. If they are your friends invite them.

  • I definitely say go for it. As weird as it is, I'm really close to my ex's mother (we weren't married, but he's the father of my daughter), we talk on a weekly basis, and she is very supportive of myself and my FI as he stepped up to the plate and took care of her granddaughter (unlike her son, who has no interest in our daughter). She knows of my wedding and would like to be invited (which she will be). Other people find this absurd, but I don't at all. She is my daughter's grandmother, which, in my eyes (and my parents eyes), makes us family, so of course I would invite her to an event in which her granddaughter will be gaining a stepfather and stepbrother.

IIt's all about what works for you and your FI. If they are close enough to you that you want to share this special time with them, then definitely go for it. Good luck!
