What's your favorite...

appliance or item in your home that you can't live without?

My mom is asking me to give her some ideas of what we want for Christmas, and I always like getting new stuff for the house.  So what do you have in your home that you love and wouldn't want to live without?  For me its my Keurig and my Shark Steam Mop, but I need new items to love!

  • Add me to the Keurig list. My parents gave FI and me one for my shower a couple weeks ago, and I totally broke the don't use the wedding gifts rule. I love the Keurig like whoa. My Roomba is awesome and I'd recommend them to anyone with dogs and hardwood floors.

  • Yeah the Keurig was by far my favorite shower gift.  H drives me nuts though because when we had a regular coffee pot he would never drink it, and now he makes coffee like  crazy and we are flying through the k-cups.  We just bought a jumbo box at Costco though so hopefully it lasts.

I want a Roomba so bad, but we just bought a new vaccuum a little over a year ago, so H said we'll get one when this one breaks.  He's much more practical than I am.

  • I had to google Keurig. It looks way cool, but I'm ok with my cheap coffee pot.

Right now, I don't have an iron.  My roomie moved out that had the awesome iron with a retractable cord.  I miss that.

And I have to go buy a hair dryer today.  I haven't owned a hair dryer in like 5 years. So, I'd ask for that.

BF uses the fry daddy like it's a miracle machine, but I want to throw that out.

And I REALLY want a shark steam mop. I moved from an all carpet apartment to an all hardwood house.

It sounds like you have everything I want, so I'm zero help.

  • My Kitchenaid mixer, fo sho. When I first got engaged and was on the boards talking about them, my thought was "those things better give orgasms for all the hype they get." And then I got one, and now I get it.

We don't think coffee, so I can't vouch for the Keurig thing.

  • I have  Ninja blender and I LOVE it. It works as both a blender and a food processor, and it makes the best smoothies.

  • I love my Kitchenaid mixer!  I had that before I even met H, when Lowe's made a mistake in their ad and sold the $400 mixer for $129.  I love that thing!  I do want some of the attachments though, so thats an idea.

Sarah we just saw that Ninja thing at Costco yesterday and H was really interested in it.  Maybe I'll put that on the list for him!

  • We have a Tassimo (kind of like a Keurig) and that's my favorite for sure.  I also love our Cuisinart Griddler (so much better than our Foreman) and our waffle iron, which is one of the Belgian waffler makers that rotates.  Maybe either or those?

  • what does a kitchenaid mixer do? and why is it $400?
  • Ooh Laura those both are good ideas.  H loves his Foreman, but I hate cleaning it.  I wish they would invent a self-cleaning kitchen grill.

Its a stand mixer.  They aren't all $400, they have different types and different price points.  None of them are cheap though.  They are just awesome because they have different attachments and you can do a lot with them.  I even use it to make dips and stuff.  They are great for baking too.

You mix whatever you're making.  Like a cake mix or cookie dough batter or anything you're making or baking.  I use it when I make my chicken wing dip because it makes it really whipped and good.  You can turn it on and leave it and keep adding ingredients and stuff to it as its mixing.

    <img id="imgthumb3" style="margin:3px;padding:1px;" class="imgthumb3" src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/xogrp/b64-images/5c238347456c67fdb9b357d793392eed70028ea3.jpg" border="1" alt="" title="http://<a href=" />

The attachments it comes with are a spatula type mixer and a dough hook to make like pizza dough.  It also comes with a pour shield so you can pour flour into it while its mixing and not get a face full of flour.
Then you can buy extra attachments like a meat grinder, sausage stuffer, pasta maker, ice cream maker, etc.

  • They last forever, Jill! They are very powerful and durable. In my family people have been known to pass them down. The attachments include a meat grinder, so you can grind fresh meat and/or make sausage. Its pretty cool.

LTB, The Ninja goes through ice and frozen fruit better than any other blender I have ever seen.

  • I use mine mostly for cookie dough, frosting and cake mixes. They have attachments for bread dough making, pasta making, vegetable straining, juicing and ice cream making.

I have the Magic bullet, and it's all hype.
It's deep in my closet with some other junk I don't use.

Plus, its name reminds me of a sex toy, and having it in the kitchen disturbs me.

  • The scooba is the mopping version of the roomba. I had a shark and liked it, but it died. And how awesome would it be to not have to sweep OR mop?

The removable plates are why we got the Griddler - completely worth it to me, and I can soak them if stuff gets really stuck on, which is awesome.  Washing the Foreman sucked, especially because I was paranoid about getting water in it.  I thought we would only use it for grilling, but I've actually used the flat plates a few times for quesadillas and pancakes.

  • I can't wait until Christmas bc I know my Grandma is getting us the KitchenAid mixer off of our registry.

Right now, both H and I can't live without our KitchenAid Stainless Steel mixer bc we love making all kinds of mixed alcoholic drinks as well as smoothies for dessert.
  • I also love my griddler!  Its seriously awesome.

  • I miss my toaster oven - FI doesn't like them because he says they take up too much space, but I'm not gonna lie - I wish it was still here =( They're so handy!
  • I love my KitchenAid--I actually bought it long before we were engaged because I bake so much. I love that I can throw some cream, sugar and vanilla in it and walk away, and come back to whipped cream. I'm never buying Cool Whip again.

I use my food processor way more than I ever thought I would. It makes quick work of shredding veggies, pureeing soups, and making pesto.

I want a new toaster or toaster oven and am kinda jealous of squirrly's electric pressure cooker. It can cook time-consuming foods really quickly without heating up your whole house, which sounds fabulous since we love to eat squash and beets and stuff and don't have A/C.
  • We have two KitchenAid stand mixers, and we just got the meat grinder, and ice cream maker attachment, although we haven't used the ice cream one yet. I use it for everything. It's amazing. And I have really weak wrists, so mixing cake or whipping frosting just doesn't cut it for me.

FI also uses it to make bread, which is awesome. Fresh bread. Yum.

I really want a blender. We never bought one, but I've really been wanting one lately.
  • That reminds me that the food processor is one thing from our registry we didn't get that we really wanted.  My least favorite part of cooking is all the prep work and the slicing and dicing and stuff so I definitely want a food processor with the attachments for that.

We have a toaster oven for the first time now and H is in love with it.  He actually got mad the other night when I put dinner in the regular oven and not the toaster oven because he thinks its going to cut down on our electric bill since its so much smaller.

That spiralizer thing sounds fun.  We have this little tool thing that makes curly fries with potatoes, and I have fun with that.

Thanks for all the tips ladies!  I'm going to end up going shopping and buying myself lots of new items now.

  • My vote would be food processor :)  Or a wine making kit.  Make me some wine!

  • And on a non-related note:  I JUST got back from a baby shower.  It is 4:45 - I left my house at 11:30.  God, that was a long shower.  We actually had a pool at our table as to what time we would be out of there.  I didn't win :(  Though I did score a Vera Bradley bag for winning a game.  Vera Bradley isnt really my thing, but it's actually kinda cute.

  • My Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer-- I LOVE it! I can mix and make so many different things with it
