I need creative brains

Okay, the carpet in the church is a bluish neutral.  Pews are wood with burgundy seats.   I made ribbon pomanders (DIY in bio) but I don't think they'll hang from the pews well.  The pews have a little itty bitty lip on the edge, but that is it.  Runners are forbidden.  I can't/won't line with tulle.  I need a new aisle decoration and can't think of anything.

Help.

  • Nothing?  Seriously, do you need to decorate the church?  I've always thought it seemed a little bit sillly to do this.
  • Can you cut the pomanders in half so that they hang flat against the pew?
Does the church have any clips or anything they use at holidays to decorate pews that you could rent or borrow for flowers or candles?
Can you just leave it plain, or do you really want something?
    Have I aksed enough questions?

Throw down some rose petals and call it a day?

I'm with Amoro here. I don't think you really need to do a lot to decorate the church. I would just use what you've already made either outside the church or in the reception.

  • ditto Amoro. most churches are pretty on their own.

  • Can you just get pew clips and hang them on those?

While there are many pretty churches, I have seen several that are bland, boring, or downright ugly.  I hope Night's church isn't one of these, but they do exist.  Too many small churches are decorated by committee, and NOTHING goes together.

Although the church isn't ugly, It was built in the 90s and has pretty minimal decoration and none along the aisle.

  • Awesome.  I'll see if I can remember any non-cheese-tastic decor from the little country church I went to as a kid.  We'll mind meld on Monday.  :)

  • Give out free kittens as guests are walking in. That way they won't notice the blandness of the church.

The pew clips seem to be your easiest and cheapest solution to line the aisles.

For a bland church, don't worry about the floor (aisle runner or petals), it's usually a wasted effort.  If your church doesn't allow aisle runners, then they probably won't allow petals on the floor either.  (petals can stain the floors, or have to be cleaned up after, and aisle runners are a notorious tripping/safety hazard.  Churches don't usually want the added hassle and liability).

Put your focus on the pews, like you are planning, and up front, around the altar.  Usually decorating every 2nd or 3rd pew is plenty, and doing every pew doesn't add that much more to the look.

See if the church has some candelabra, and/or some pedestals for a couple of large plants or flowers arrangements.  Average sized arrangements can have a much more dramatic effect if placed in a larger or taller container (like an urn or tall vase) and placed on a pedestal.

If they have some kind of raised area, like a rail or ledge behind the altar area, you might could use some plants, or some seasonal flowering plants for a dramatic effect, at minimal cost.  Like poinsettias, lilies, tulips, mums, daisies, or azaleas.  After the wedding, the plants can be repurposed, planted, given away, used as thank you gifts, or donated to the church.

I often find the 6" plants for $5-10 each at a local plant nursery, or the local Home Depot or Lowe's store.  I've seen one wedding where they took about 10 boston ferns and lined the altar area with them, instead of flowers.  It looked pretty neat.
