PSA: Apache Prayer

Just an FYI- In case you are thinking of using the Apache Prayer as a reading in your ceremony- not many people know this and I don't want to offend anyone, but working with Native Americans for several years I have some knowledge in this area.  I was originally thinking of using the Apache Prayer as well, but I have come to find from my friends that the Apache Prayer is not a prayer at all.  In fact, it is not even Native American.  It is actually part of a script from a 1950 movie "Broken Arrow".  No actual prayer or ritual such as this exists.  Here is just one of many sites about this: http://www.examiner.com/x-432-Wedding-and-Marriage-Examiner~y2008m9d11-Origins-The-Apache-Wedding-Prayer I am not sure about you, but when I found this out, I didn't want a made up ritual from a movie to be a part of my ceremony.  I have thought about posting this as a general PSA on another board, but never have.   I thought I should just let people know so you can make your own decision.

  • Thanks for that!  I saw the title of the post and thought, oh man, I'm going to have to do some education here.  But you've got it covered!
