S/O Presents

Going off of Sarah#'s post.

What is the best gift you have ever been given?
What is the best gift you have given someone?

Pretend for a moment that you came into a lot of money. What gift would you give H/FI that you have always wanted to give him?

Re: S/O Presents

  • Best gift I received was probably the check my grandmother gave us as a wedding gfit. I know that's not very sentimental, but it really helped us out and was a large chunk of our downpayment for our house.

Best I've given might be the Busch stadium seats I got for H as a wedding gift.

If I had loads of money I'd probably "give" H an awesome new patio/backyard and a sweet mancave that I would also clearly enjoy :)
    Leo says hi. He's...special.

  • Best gift I ever got? For my 17th birthday, my dad bought be a Ford Probe. I had wanted that car more than anything in the world...so, he got me a fixer-upper. Only, we never got it fixed. It was the thought that counted.

Best gift I've ever given? I think a necklace I had made for my mom with a picture of her puppy that died from cancer etched into glass. He was such an amazingly beautiful dog, and was a little over a year old when he died---I wanted her to be able to keep him forever.

  • The best gift I have ever received would have to be my great grandmother's diamond ring. My grandmother passed it down to me when I turned 21. It's amazing and an antique. I wish I could wear it everyday, but that sucker is huge.

The best gift I've ever given is movie I made of pictures of my father from birth until now. I gave it to him on his 60th birthday and I've never seen him get so emotional. I thought I was being cheap by doing it, but apparently I won that race. haha

If money wasn't an object, I'd buy FI a 1995 Nissan 240sx with an sr20det engine swap in it. Along with the wheels and the exhaust he's always wanted. He had an amazing 240 when we started dating, but sold it 2 years ago. He's missed it ever since because he built that car from the ground up. Unfortunately, I don't have 3grand lying around for JUST the engine.
  • Reading fail: I didn't see the last question.

If money were not an issue, I'd give Rich a fully functioning recording studio. When he was in college, he recorded a CD--all his own vocals, and guitar/piano playing. We don't have the "tools" here for him to do anything like that now, and I'm sure he'd like the opportunity to do music related things again if he could.

  • Hmm I think the best gift I've gotten, while morbid, were the three hearts my vet gave me when my rats died. They had a little paw print from my girls and their name etched in it. I also got a really long card from one of the vet assistants about how much one of my rats changed her view of rats as pets and how she will be missed.

Best gift I gave....I think would have been my present to mom this Christmas. She's been wanting to change her sewing room around (used to be my bedroom) but didn't want to hurt my feelings by telling me she was "taking away" my bedroom (even though I hadn't lived there in almost 6 years. So for Christmas I made her a card telling her her present, then Dh and I spent 2 full days over there painting, redoing the floor (carpet to hardwood), and building shelves.

If I had the money I would buy Dh the Chevy Camaro he wants. He had one when he was in his early twenties that his ex completely destroyed ( purposefully left the windows and sunroof open in NC during hurricane season while dh was stationed overseas).
  • I'm hoping my best gift-giving experience ever will be with the trench coat I posted below. It took me a number of years to figure out how to get presents for my mom, because she can be kind of finicky, but I think I'm finally starting to figure her out.

Best gift I've received is probably the Le Creuset pot that FI got me for my birthday a few years ago. I use that thing all the time, and I love it.

If money were no object whatsoever, like I'd won the lottery or something, I'd get FI and me a cabin in the Lake Placid, NY area. That place is magical for us, and our goal is to be able to get a vacation house there someday. We've even talked about building one.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Best gift I've ever gotten is the laptop FI gave me because mine was going down hill fast. I never even mentioned it to him. He did it completely on his own. :)

Best gift I've ever given- FI was very close with his Grandpa who passed away when he was young. He had his grandpa's ring. Well, being a typical 12 year old, he gave it to his gf at the time because he "loved" her. I tracked down the old gf, got the ring back (luckily she still had it) and gave it to him 2 Christmases ago. He was totally surprised.

If money was no object I would get FI a ridiculously expensive telescope. He has always wanted to work for Nasa, and is considering a masters in physics.
