"Falling Slowly" (aka song from Once) as a wedding song? + Poll

What do you think? It's so freaking beautiful, and I'm lucky enough to have two friends who sing professionally who will sing at our wedding. The lyrics are somewhat cryptic, but I just love how the song makes me feel. I think I'd have this song performed as a piece in the ceremony, not as a song to walk to.

I love that song. FI and I sing it sometimes, and I love that he is capable of part independence. It's a good thing in a guy.

I know what you mean about the lyrics... it is kind of bittersweet, and sometimes I feel like it is about loss, but it is also hopeful. But eh, what the hey. You should use it. It's perfect for you two especially.

This said, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time agonizing over the lyrics of all the songs I'm picking for the wedding.

I think it's an amazing song, and you should do it! (Besides, in the end they point the ship home, so it's good - no?) FWIW, FI and I are thinking of using Songs of Love by Ben Folds, and it's not exactly a love song. We're operating under the assumption that no one really listens to the lyrics.

We actually have "a song"...one that we first danced to as teenagers, so that is ours by default. But -- I absolutely love Falling Slowly, it is so beautiful. Sometimes I have listened to it on repeat for a long time...weird?

We really want to waltz, and it's hard finding songs in the proper time. I'm just iffy about our wedding song opening with the line "Pale, pubescent beasts..."

Poli at the beginning of this clip, he says the song is about redemption. Trying to fix something that's broken and if you can't fix it, then wish it well and send it on it's way. Or something like that.

Fish, I'm glad you found that! I think that's why the song struck me so much. Without oversharing (don't I always?), FI met me during a really bad time in my life, and he was really there for me through a lot of bad stuff. Not like he saved me or anything, but he was definitely a source of support.

Oh, and I'm definitely playing Don't Stop Believing during the reception. But given how many people use "With or Without You" and "I'll be Watching You" as wedding songs... no. I don't think people pay attention to lyrics. Though a lot of times now I think, "Nope, only happy lovey-dovey songs at my wedding!"
