Adamar, I agree with you that he isn't a child and can do this all by himself but he asked me to make sure he goes. He's been really good up until last week so maybe he's just have a rough two weeks with it.

Megan, I wouldn't stress out about that. You'd be suprised how much you'll be able to get accomplished when you're the one deciding what needs to be done.

Ha, Megan. Yeah, she sort of disregards any rumors of other GFs.

This is going to sound awful, but she's not at all the type of woman a rich and famous (I'm told--I'd never heard of him before she went off the deep end) dude would go for. She's a single mom of two, a high school dropout, lives in her sister's basement and does not have the physique one would expect of a kept woman. God, I'm an asshole.

ETA: I'll probably DD or edit this later, on the off chance she wanders over here to plan their nuptuals.
  • I LOVE me some ABBA.  I just bought their Greatest Hits record, just to realize I already had one.

Charmin, have you seen Mamma Mia?

I tried.  God, I tried to watch the movie and I found it excruciating.  It is surprising because I generally live for that shiit.

  • Cfas, I agree she sounds disturbed. H is worried about her and her oldest daughter, particularly about her daughter realizing her mom is not quite stable.

Jokes aside, how does one even approach this? It's not like he can just call her and say, "I think you need a mental health evaluation because no rock star wants to have anything to do with you."

I imagine once all of tihs is out in the open, she's going to be horribly embarrassed. Regardless of whether I want to be her friend, I genuinely do not want her to be hurt.

    Not the movie, the musical.

But I loved both, so maybe you wouldn't enjoy it.

Mamma Mia is fan-freaking-tastic.  I don't even <em>like</em> ABBA and I loved that show.

ETA: The musical, not the movie.  Meryl Streep gets on my nerves in the movie.
Special -- That story almost makes me feel sorry for your SIL. She is clearly disturbed if she is fabricating stories about her non-relationship. It's also clearly nothing like my relationship with Johnny Depp. Ours is a true love.

  • The musical is far superior to the movie. My father has seen it four times, though he turned the movie off about half an hour into it.

<div>Was it because Pierce Brosnan sang?  It should come with a disclosure about that.</div><div>

  • Pierce Brosnan is nice to look at, but he should never ever sing in public again.
  • No one challenges her. They just talk behind her back. I'm sure she's completely oblivious to the thought that not everyone believes her.

It reminds me of the time in fourth grade when I really thought my teacher wouldn't notice if I signed my dad's name on my detention slip.
  • I'm partly amused, partly feeling sorry for your SIL, special. And I agree with cfas that if she is genuinely serious, then she needs a mental health evaluation and help. Especially if little kids are involved.
I would try to see how she responds to someone challenging her relationship. But not in a mean way, like<strong> "Why doesn't Brandon ever come to visit?"</strong> Start there and see how far she takes it. Maybe she goes on with it because it's a big elaborate joke.
I confess I really cannot stand SIL. There are two of them, and one is okay, but the other ones is one of the most pompous people I have ever met.  She's an expert on everything--dogs (she had six and could barely take care of them), kids (she plops her two year old in front of the tv all day), relationships (terrible, terrible marriage and divorce), music and any other topic she feels like discussing. She's also delusional. <strong>She's been swearing for the last two or three years that she's dating the lead singer from Incubus. Um, no.</strong>
    Posted by specialk84
Yikes. Incubus? I haven't heard that band name in like 10 years... I feel for you.

It's one thing to say, "Hey, I think there's something wrong." It's another for someone with no training to diagnose a mental illness in a person she has never and will never meet.
