Getting Ring Insured

Anyone care to share your experience? the SO and I aren't sure where to start. Do we go back to the place he bought it from?

    We went through Alstate and just added it to our renters insurance.

    We also just added it as a separate rider to our renters insurance.  I believe we had Travelers.

    You do need to have it appraised to have it insured. My ring was his grandmothers and through the process I've learned that they usually charge by the number of karats.

    If it is not an heirloom, your FI should have gotten an appraisal when he bought it.

    I recently went to GAL on 47th st NYC for the appraisal. They charge per carat. Very quick and easy. I wrote a yelp review. They're Gemological Appraisal Lab I think is what it stands for. They give you a laminated certificate you can then send to your insurance company. (We already have renter's through State Farm and added the ring on to that)
