    BF and I went shopping 2 weeks ago and one of the stores we went to had a consignment section.  It was huge!

    I would give it back

    If I was the one to end an engagement, I would give the ring back.   It's the right thing to do, since I was the one breaking the "contract."

    If my FI ended it, I would not give the ring back.  I would sell it or have it turned into something else.  He could consider that a parting gift.  If I ended it because he was cheating, that would fall under this too.  He could just consider it a "sorry for screwing someone else" gift instead.

    I would like to think I would give it back whether things ended on good terms or not considering he would not be the only person I was hurting by keeping it. I think it would be a little unfair to hurt his mom just because he messed up. :)
