Engagement Announcement

I am TRYING to write a nice engagment announcement to put in the local papers, trouble is, my fiance and i both do not want to put our education or work in the annoucncent. we both received GED's instead of high school diplomas and we both work average jobs, nothing we would want to brag about so we would just like those things left out. any suggestions on how to word this or what things we SHOULD put!

Thanks in Advance!

Re: Engagement Announcement

  • Our local paper only includes the names and hometowns of the couple for engagement announcements. What's common in your area? I'm sure you can list how much or how little information you like!

[QUOTE]We also did not mention education or careers. We just mentioned our parents names, and when and where we were getting married.

We did two announcements - one in each hometown paper.  One paper just had a form that we filled out and they wrote it, the other form we filled out.

I say include what you want, and leave out whatever you aren't comfortable with.

But whatever you decide, absolutely leave out the date of the wedding.  Theives will troll engagement announcements and then rob the houses the date of the wedding since they know parents/bride/groom won't be home.  It happened to a girl on my local board and the police told her that's how they knew as it happened to some other couples in the previous weeks.

Just say something like a summer 2012 wedding is planned or something like that.

Yeah, we were all pretty floored when she told us about it.

Whoa, I hadn't thought of that, either.

Usually the anouncements are after the wedding has taken place, though. That could just be my area, though.

I think it's perfectly okay to be selective about the info you put in there. Leaving out your education and jobs is fine.

You can put in your names and how happy you are and leave it at that. Honestly, sometimes the simpler it is, the better.

  • Oh and were aren't putting parents names either, so you can see the wording problem  i have. Both newspapers require us to write it ourselves(of course!!) and i just don't want it to look stupid or silly being so much shorter then the other ones around it!!
  • How about... The parents of Shanliann Jones and David Tennant would like to announce the engagement of their children. They plan to marry this spring/June/whatever. Something like that?

  • Well with what you've told us it's probably going to be shorter, simply because there really are only a few things you put in an engagement announcement and you've cut most of them.  I'd think something like the following is what you're left with:

"Shanliann of Hometown, Iowa and ShanFI of Town Next Door, Iowa are pleased to announce their engagement.  They are planning a Fall 2012 wedding"

Keep in mind that engagement announcements are 100% unnecessary so if you're not comfortable with it just don't have one....

    This.

I do not know the reason you aren't including either of your parents. We are paying for our wedding ourselves but i knew it would please our parents to include them, his parents have lived in their community their whole lives so it was important to them. Did not hurt me to do that. This is how i had mine

Mr _________ _______ and Ms ___________ _________ (divorced so both last names) would like to announce the engagement of their daughter _________ ______ to _________ _______ son of Mr & Mrs. _________ _______. A june 2012 wedding is planned in _________ ________. This was for our town paper, we reversed it for his parents town paper as my parents are not known there. He came first then.
