Poll: After you die

This may be kind of morbid, but oh, well. I'm bored and curious.

Do you believe in heaven/hell?

If yes, what do you think it's like?

Cremation or burial?

Why?

Do you want to be buried with anything?

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?

    Do you believe in heaven/hell?
I believe in heaven but not in hell.

If yes, what do you think it's like?
I don't necessarily believe in heaven as the pearly white gates so much as a lovely place where your family and friends are that have passed on.

    Cremation or burial?
    Cremation

    Why?
Takes up less space, FI and I can be burried in the same plot.

Do you want to be buried with anything?
Nothing that springs to mind now.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?
Burried. I personally get creeped out when someone's ashes are on the mantle and I avoid the area like crazy since I'm terrified that I'd knock them over. I'm accident prone and it would be just my luck that there would be a "Meet the Parents" type situation.

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? I do.

If yes, what do you think it's like? I have always believed that everyone's is a little different.  Heaven would have all of your favorite things and would be eternal happiness.  Then, hell would be the opposite of that.

Cremation or burial? Burial in a mausoleum only.
Why? It is totally irrational, but bugs getting in my coffin.  I also don't want to be creamated.

Do you want to be buried with anything? Nothing currently.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?N/A

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? Sort of, but not in a biblical sort of way. Think What Dreams May Come.

If yes, what do you think it's like? It varies, depends on how it's envisioned by each individual. My heaven would be like a glorious acid trip. My hell would be like a bad acid trip.

Cremation or burial? Neither. Mausoleum, please.

Why? Because I don't want to be set on fire, and I'm claustrophobic. Above ground room, please.

Do you want to be buried with anything? A comfy bed and maybe some stuff animals and photos.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? N/A

<div>Yes, I believe in heaven and hell. I don't really know what they are like, I only have what the Bible says on the two places. I think heaven is pretty with angels and golden streets and mansions :) Which sounds naive typing that out, but anyway. I think hell is pretty much as most people see it, with fire and brimstone and whatnot.</div><div>
</div><div>I want to be cremated. I want my ashes to be scattered, but I'm not sure where yet.</div>

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? I don't know...

If yes, what do you think it's like? I truly want to believe that after death I get to see everyone who died before me, watch the happenings on earth, and learn all the secrets that people here don't know.  It's a fantasy, but I like to believe it.  It's not exactly a heaven or a hell.

Cremation or burial? Cremation.  The idea of rotting in a box makes me terrified.

    Why? See above.

Do you want to be buried with anything? If I was being buried?  No... I want my husband to have my rings to pass to our children.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? Scatter them somewhere with wind and not over water.  Open, deep water has always scared me even though I can swim like a fish.  I'm weird.
  • Do you believe in heaven/hell?
    No

If yes, what do you think it's like?
    NA

    Cremation or burial?
    Cremation
    Why?
I can't stand the thought of being buried.

Do you want to be buried with anything?
    No

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?
    Scattered on the Big Island.

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? No.

If yes, what do you think it's like?

    Cremation or burial? Cremation.

Why? I like the thought of my remains being spread out across the area I grew up in more than I relish the thought of them just rotting in the ground.

Do you want to be buried with anything?

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? Scattered off the top of this big cliff back home that overlooks the lakes. I have no idea if you're allowed to do this, but it's happening.

Do you believe in heaven/hell?  Yes

If yes, what do you think it's like?  Well simply put, Heaven is gorgeous and awesome and a rockin good time and Hell is pretty much worse than your worst nightmare

Cremation or burial?  I give nonefucks

    Why?  Don't care

Do you want to be buried with anything?  Don't care

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?  Don't care.  What happens to my remains after I die is moreso for the comfort of those I leave behind so whatever they are comfortable with is fine by me.
    panther
  • I was taught my whole life to believe in Heaven.  I've heard different perspectives about whether or not it will be like Earth, or the "clouds-in-the-sky" interpretation, but I really don't care either way.
I believe I'll know my FI in heaven as my husband, unlike many people believe.

But if heaven doesn't exist, I'm fine with that too.
Both FI and I want to be cremated, so I think there's something romantic about my body becoming part of the Earth again.  Burial in a big fancy coffin creeps me out!
We want our ashes spread up in the mountains somewhere together.
  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? Heaven, kind of. Hell, no.

If yes, what do you think it's like? I think Heaven is like everyone's perfect day. You can be any age and do whatever you want. Your loved ones will be there, but will still act like themselves. I predict an abundance of yarn and kitties.

Cremation or burial? Why? I think cremation, unless there was anything at all suspcious about my death. It takes up less room, and you can delay the funeral to make it more convenient for other people.

Do you want to be buried with anything? Maybe just some family photos. I'm not sure if I want to be buried with my rings. H says he is keeping his for eternity, but I think I might want to hang onto it.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? I think I want them to be interred somewhere, just so no one loses me. If H and I both die together, I wouldn't want our families fighting over who gets to keep us. He and I talked about having the ashes mixed together if we die together. That might be nice. Then again, that might be weird.

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? Yes.

If yes, what do you think it's like? I'm not entirely sure.  My father told me once that "heaven is what you make it" -- specifically that whatever your dreams are, heaven will be.  If that were my case, it would be everyone I love, and no pain.  Hell...I don't really think about.  Try not to.

    Cremation or burial? Cremation.

Why? This is going to sound so, so silly, but I'm really claustrophobic and even the idea of my body being in a box in the ground, (even dead) and rotting for eternity freaks me out.

Do you want to be buried with anything? Nope.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? I don't care.  Back when we were discussing it, I told H I didn't care what he did with my ashes (if I died first), just so long as I don't end up in an urn on the mantle.

    Do you believe in heaven/hell?
In an abstract way, I guess I believe in something like heaven.
If yes, what do you think it's like?
    Nice
    Cremation or burial?
    Cremation
    Why?
I don't want to rot in the ground and take up space.
Do you want to be buried with anything?
What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? Scattered in the ocean like my grandparents.

  • Do you believe in heaven/hell? Yes, both.

If yes, what do you think it's like? Heaven - Perfection where everything is in perfect harmony. Hell - Disharmony and the worst place you can possibly imagine.

Cremation or burial? Why? Well I'm leaning towards burial but only because that's what happens in my family. Then I think of all the wasted space involved with burials and I lean towards cremation. I'm pretty sure H is deadset on the twin burial plot though.

Do you want to be buried with anything? Nope. I can't use it so someone else might as well get some enjoyment/use out of it.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? I don't really care. Whatever my departed loved ones are more comfortable with is fine by me.
  • Do you believe in heaven/hell?
    yes, I believe in both.

If yes, what do you think it's like?
I believe heaven is like a feeling that words cannot describe.  An unimaginable peace and happiness.
I believe hell sucks balls and is an eternity of pain and suffering.
    Cremation or burial?
As of now, probably burial, but I'm not opposed to cremation.

    Why?
    Idk to be honest.

Do you want to be buried with anything?
My wedding ring for sure, preferrably still on my finger.  Some sort of rosary or crucifix.  Maybe photos of my loved ones? Idk, never erally thought of this.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?
If cremated, I'd love to be scattered all over.  Some in the French Riviera, some on a shelf, some maybe on the land of the house FI and I grow old in (assuming it's the same house for most of our lives).
  • Do you believe in heaven/hell?
I do, I very much believe that we make our own heaven and hell, however.  For instance, in "What Dreams May Come," that's what's done.

If yes, what do you think it's like?
Apparently all my beliefs are based off books and movies Tongue Out  Like I said above, I believe we make our own heaven or hell, so heaven would be the place you love most, hell the place you hate the most.  However, I think you could visit other people's heavens whenever you want.  If you've ever read the final book in CS Lewis's "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe," it would be like that.

    Cremation or burial?
I don't really care, I guess?  It won't matter to me, I'm dead at this point, so it would be whatever my survivors want.

     Why?
    Because I'd be dead.

Do you want to be buried with anything?
Again, it'd be up to the survivors.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?
I think being on a shelf is kind of strange, so either buried or scattered.  I've never really given much thought to it, honestly.

Do you believe in heaven/hell? No, neither.

If yes, what do you think it's like?

Cremation or burial? I'm fine with people choosing either, but I lean toward cremation.

Why? Buring seems silly and wasteful. And those big caskets made of metal? It's not as if you're any less dead because the worms can't get to you.

Do you want to be buried with anything? Rich is all I care about being near.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)? I think it would be nice to have them placed near my family's plots at the cemetery so family will have a place to visit when they choose.

    *spoilers for Buffy*

    Do you believe in heaven/hell?
I like the idea of heaven, but the way Buffy, the Vampire Slayer describes it in season 6.

If yes, what do you think it's like?
    She tells Spike:
"I was happy. Wherever I ... was ... I was happy. At peace. I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it. Time ... didn't mean anything ... nothing had form ... but I was still me, you know? And I was warm ... and I was loved ... and I was finished. Complete. I don't understand about theology or dimensions, or ... any of it, really ... but I think I was in heaven."

    Cremation or burial?
    Burial.

    Why?
I wouldn't want to be kept in an urn and I'll never be able to decide where my ashes should be thrown.

Do you want to be buried with anything?
I'm not sure, probably not. "You can't take it with you" and all that, I guess.

What do you want to be done with your ashes (buried, scattered, stuck on a shelf, etc.)?
    see above. :)

This reminds me of a relative of mine from a few generations ago who was buried with her jewelry.  After she was buried, her family decided they wanted the jewelry back so they dug her up.  Turns out she wasn't dead when they buried her (this was back before they did embalming) and she'd clawed the sides of her casket and pulled half her hair out before suffocating.

Pretty morbid but then again, this is a death thread, lol.

  • If, lawd forbid, I couldn't get my mausoleum, I suppose I'd want to be cremated over being buried. Claustrophobia trumps. In that case, I wouldn't want to be scattered in a body of water, or anywhere where my ashes could end up in a body of water (due to rain, etc.). Because I don't want to end up in someone's toilet.

Oh yeah and I'll donate anything of me that they want before I'm cremated. The idea of helping someone live, or at least live a better life, would hopefully make my family feel better. Otherwise, you just go to waste.
