When to cash the check?

I'm not sure if this goes on this board, or the Registries board - to me it's a matter of etiquette.

N and I are getting married on September 19 of this year - so a little more than a month away.  We were at a family party this past Sunday, and got some cards, some of which included checks. I've already written and sent the thank you notes, but I'm not sure when to cash the checks. I know that with traditional wedding gifts, you don't use it until after the wedding. But if I were the person, I'd be annoyed if someone held onto a check I gave them for a month and a half... what should we do?

Re: When to cash the check?

  • Cash them.
  • Cash them. I'd be pretty annoyed if someone waited a month and a half to cash a check and made my checkbook all screwed up. If someone gives you a check, I think its okay to cash it.

This. Cash them so their accounts balance, but sock the money into a savings account or something.

  • I would cash them, it's probably easier for those people that sent them...I always watch for the checks to clear my account.
  • Thanks everyone!
