My FMIL and I have looked various places for a necklace and a bracelete (pearl) for me to wear on my wedding day. We haven't found anything that really goes with my dress (we haven't looked too hard either). So this weekend when I was over at the family farm and we were stuffing invites she said her co-worker gave me a bracelet. I thought, "oh, how odd but that's nice." She said not to worry about writing a thank you because she said it looks kind of inexpensive and she thinks her co-worker got it for free.
I opened the box and it is a stretchy bracelet not made of pearl so I'm not sure why she passed it along...anyway, I told my FMIL that maybe I could wear it to my shower next month and then I said again I was going to go home and write a thank you and she said again that she didn't think I needed to.
I should, right? A gift is a gift, no matter how inexpensive it is. I've only met her co-worker once but the FMIL has invited her to the shower and the wedding so I don't want her to think I haven't received the gift.
