QOTD!

Hey ladies!  What's the haps?  As you can see, I'm in a much brigher mood than yesterday, so that's rockin.  Today, I'm going to become a member of the AWC board (crazay) so that should be fun.  I'm also going to go take a walk! Woo!

QOTD: Would you ever move out of the US or Canada?

There, so I don't compete with Fischey's good morning thread.

Re: QOTD!

  • Whats AWC?
  • I was wondering that, too.

I am doing well this am, just have a lot on my mind to get done over the next few days. But it will all be worth it bc we get to go home this weekend. I'm so excited!

AANNNNDDDD, no. I don't think I would move for good out of the States. I like it here.

Unless I needed to skip out of the country for some unforeseeable reason...that shall not be named, Imma stay put.

  • Nope, I think I will stick with the good 'ole US of A
  • Sorry. :)  AWC is the American Women's Club.

Shut the hell up about that .6.  YOU DIDN'T WIN FISHEY.  I call that tie.
  • Oh dude.  I totally didn't notice another one had been started.  MY BAD.
  • 'Morning! I'm getting ready for class. I just have to make it until 12:45, then I can take a nap. I have a ton of homework to get done, but w/o a nap, it's not going to happen. And I think I would like to live somewhere outside of the US for a while, but wouldn't leave permanently.
  • Yeah, I beat you to it by .6 seconds.

    Insufferable.
  • Good morning!

I'd leave the US for Canada or Ireland.  Although I doubt FI would do the Canada thing, he would be all over the moving to Ireland idea.

  • QOTD: Would you ever move out of the US or Canada?

Yes, but only if I could move somewhere where they speak English. So I guess that narrows it down to a handful of countries. I'm too stubborn to learn another language right now.

  • Morning!

I think I would only leave Canada permanently if I had a chance to "try out" the country I was moving to.

Or I wouldn't mind being posted by the foreign service for a few years at a time in different countries, my bff is about to be posted and I'm envious.

  • QOTD:  Not permanently, but for a year or two definitely.  But once we have kids, I'd like them to be at least kind of near their grandparents and extended family.

  • Probably not.  I would love to go out of the country on vacation, seeing as I have never been outside of the US.  But all my family lives either in Maryland or within a few hours driving distance from one another, and we see each other a lot.  I most likely won't even be moving out of my and FI's home town, since we both love the area.

If I did go somewhere, I would want to go to Germany.  My mom's mother was born and raised there, only to be whisked away to the US by my Opa when he was in the military over there.  Her family has visited a few times from Germany, but I would like to go there someday.

  • Good morning!

I don't think I'd leave North America permanently, but if I could talk FI into it I'd love to live in France for a year or two at some point. My french is decent, so I think it'd be doable, if he could find a job there.

  • I would love the chance to live in another country. Mr Panda has done it and I am filled with jealousy.
  • Sure I'd move out of the US. Oh, wait.  I guess this question didn't apply to me :-(

In fact, if I had kids, keeping thtem away from extended family would be a reason to stay out of the country.

  • I did a semester abroad in England and lived in China for a year after college.  I'd move overseas again if it were possible, but I think it would be hard to find a job in my field.  I have no desire to work at a large international firm again and I don't know how else a US lawyer could practice abroad.  Not that I've looked into it.  H would move, too.  We've talked about Canada, UK and China.  Not seriously though.

    Enjoy that walk.

It's so foreign to me to feel like that.  Knowing that I'll just stay in the same town or area forever.  It actually makes me feel claustrophobic.
  • H and i would love to move out of the country.  I know the vision in my head is much more pleasant than the reality would be.  We both adored New Zealand when we were there, so that would be my first choice.

I've been daydreaming lately about moving to an EU country.  FI and I could stay within our fields and change our specialties and could probably find work.  However; his job here is very stable, and it makes zero sense to leave it.  It's also not a good time to move far away from my family.  So we're planning vacations instead.
  • I love America and would never move permanently unless it was for something I loved more than America.

  • DH won't even leave the U.S. for travel so I don't think we would ever move outside the U.S. unless it was to move to Canada.  If he was interested in moving to another country, I'd do it for a couple of years if I could find a job there.

  • I don't think I would move to another country, at least as long as my children are still in school. Besides the language issues, I wouldn't want to take them away from grandparents for that long. My sister, for a while, was lobbying HARD for us to move to Switzerland with her, but I just can't.
  • Not permenantly. I might for a year here or there, when I have kids and they are older (like teens). Just to give them a broader learning experience. Otherwise, no. I like the USA!

Wow, why not? That is seriously impossible for me to imagine/understand (I have dual citizenship and had made my first international move by 6 weeks old), and I could never be with someone who wouldn't travel.

Preeeetty sure we all know my answer to the question. As to whether I would move to a new country (ie. not US, UK or Chile) - I'm not opposed to it if some amazing opportunity fell in our laps, but honestly, having 3 countries is complicated enough. I want to travel plenty, but I don't have a burning desire to go set down roots in even more places.
  • Oh, and Fang, if you're really interested in moving, I know that some of the bigger/better-known law firms in Chile keep one US lawyer on staff to deal with anything that comes up involving the US. I'd imagine that would be the case in some other countries too, although that doesn't mean those firms would necessarily be your style or that those jobs are easy to get since it's usually just one spot.
