Save the Dates vs. Invitations for Destination Wedding

I know that the correct etiquette says to send a save the date 8-10 months in advance and then the invitations 2-4 months in advance.  I am on a tight budget for my wedding and was thinking of sending invitations very early, but enclosing a magnet for people to keep on the fridge.  Is this unheard of or should it be ok?

  • Not a good idea.  And actually, you send your invites 6-8 weeks in advance.  I wouldn't send them more than 10 weeks in advance.  People will lose them, forget to RSVP, etc.

You don't have to send STDs.  If you want to, since it's a DW, and you want to save money, you could email them.  Or there are lots of budget friendly ways to do them.

  • By budget do you mean the additional cost of sending separate save the dates? If so, the answer is simple: Vista Print has sales like all the time which will allow you to get postcards as STDs for damn near free.

  • Nope.  I said mine after yours.

A different mean was implied with mine.

  • Jinxers- I agree!

The only reason I sent any out is because I did them as Christmas cards, and we are having a somewhat DW.  Otherwise I wasn't going to waste any money.  I think they've gotten WAY too out of hand.  Too much thought, time, and money are going in to something that's really only kept on the fridge by a small handful of people.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
