There was a girl who posted not too long ago who did her whole wedding for $10,000. Maybe search through the archives - I believe she had her reception in a restaurant on the Upper West Side.

You aren't dreaming! I'm in the same boat. My fiance and I are hosting our own wedding with 70 guests, and it looks like we'll be under our $15,000 budget. My best advice: don't be afraid to ask. I emailed a ton of venues that were out of our budget, and one was willing to cut the costs by 45% because we chose to have our event on a Sunday. It's a holiday weekend, so most of our guests won't be inconvenienced, and we were able to get a cocktail hour with passed appetizers and a three course seated dinner within our modest budget.

My other trick: I pitched the event as a family reunion. Venues know they can jack up the prices when dealing with a bride and her big day, but I found most places willing to negotiate prices down for a family event. We let our venue know it was actually a wedding just before signing the contract. There were no hard feelings and we ended up with a great deal! Best of luck!
