Tell me about your honeymooon.

Where did you go? What did you do? Did you leave immediately after the wedding, or did you wait a few months, a year, etc.? What was the best part?

FI and I are looking at either doing something quick right after the wedding, or waiting and saving for something bigger.

We never took one. We planned on going about a year after the wedding but shortly after we got married we got hit with a lot of financial crap we didnt forsee - I couldnt find a job, my husband lost his job, I got a job and then they cut my hours, then I found another job and got laid off. It just never ended up happening.
  • Well, I'm getting married after you, but we have ours booked. Originally, we wanted to go to Paris about 7 months after the wedding (so we'd be in Paris in spring, and it would give us time to recover from the wedding). Then we thought about a mini-moon right after the wedding. Then we realized that we are paying for this whole she-bang ourselves, so we're putting Paris on the backburner for now. We'll go in a year or two, but just as a regular vacation.

We're leaving 2 days after our wedding (wedding is Sunday, we're leaving Tuesday). That way we can visit with our families the day after the wedding, come home, open gifts, get packed to go and relax. We booked a B&B in Napa for 4 nights. We're trying to get reservations to good restaurants, we want to do a hot air balloon ride, we want to go to the tasting rooms downtown, and of course go to wineries!

  • Where did you go?  Road trip to New Mexico

What did you do?  Stayed at an amazing resort (Hyatt Tamaya) in between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.  Mostly lounged by the pool, ate some good New Mexican food and um... relaxed ;)

Did you leave immediately after the wedding, or did you wait a few months, a year, etc.? We flew home from Vegas on Monday evening and left on Tuesday morning.  We were going to wait a few months so we could afford to go to Mexico or something, but we really wanted to take the week after the wedding off to be together.

What was the best part?  Spending lots of quality time together.  I'm glad we didn't go somewhere where we would have been busy.  I loved just sitting out on the patio together in the evenings.

  • Our honeymoon was awesome! We went (don't laugh) to Disneyworld.
I hear you laughing....I was really skeptical at first, I mean, really, Disney? We're grown adults here. But Dh had never ever been and my best friend lived in Orlando at the time so I thought, ok, why not.
    We had an absolute blast.
We got married Friday, had a brunch Saturday, spent Sunday packing for the honeymoon and left Monday. I believe we flied back in the following Saturday so wedding/honeymoon festivities took about....11 days or so.

If Disney didn't happen we were planning on just getting a nice hotel a few hours away so we could be by ourselves. Turn off the phone, have a nice dinner, and be away from distractions and daily stress.
  • Nebb- That sucks. You can take an international honeymoon after his comic makes you millions. :)

We are debating taking a hiking trip around Glacier, or saving up for a trip to Ireland next summer, but at that point it's not really a honeymoon.

  • We went to Niagara Falls. We stayed on the Canada side for 4 nights, in a beautiful hotel that looked our over the falls. Our wedding was Saturday, and we left early Monday morning. We did a ton of stuff 2 of the days, went to Clifton Hill and all the touristy stuff. We also did a jetboat tour which was awesome. The rest of the time we just relaxed. It was nice to spend that week together just us right after the wedding.

  • I wanted to go to Canada this weekend, but I forgot that you have to have a passport now. That annoys me to no end.

  • Oh B....

We had sex once on our honeymoon, because the hotel gave us two single beds instead of a king. They also squeaked...really badly...but it was still fun.
  • THat's what you get, Katie, for coming to Orlando for your HM and not meeting up with me.

  • That's very "I love Lucy" Katie. For the longest time, I thought married people had to sleep in seperate beds.

  • We can't afford much of one, so we're spending a night at the Stanley Hotel.  We're taking one of their ghost tours, then hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park the next day.  It's only about a 90 minute drive for us, so it'll make a nice mini-moon.

  • Lisa that sounds so fun! I really want to go there one day. We've discussed doing a southern-states ghost tour someday.

  • I've stayed at the Stanley- it's so creepy!
    image
  • If we go to the Stanley, I want something creepy. Otherwise, I'll feel rather disappointed.

  • We're going to Key West. I haven't booked anything yet though. I should get on that. Our goal is to see Ernest Hemingway's house and drink like Ernest Hemingway the rest of the time. I also would like to take home a six toed cat, but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna work for me.

  • Costa Rica! We went the morning after the wedding and we stayed a week. We stayed at an all inclusive on the Papagayo Gulf. The best part was drinking ourselves silly and having lots of sex. Oh, and there were monkeys. Monkeys are pretty cool.

We went to Barcelona. We stayed in an apartment in Barceloneta, the old city. It was all locals, near the water and no one spoke English. It was exactly what we wanted. We waited until 5 months after the wedding to save more money, so it wasn't a "honeymoon" but more like our first big vacation as a married couple.
  • Kiki-your pic is adorable.

We plan on going to Italy for our HM.  As of right now I just want to go there and skip the wedding part.

That's what my parents did!  I love Glacier, but I want to be lazy on my honeymoon so we're going to Cabo and doing nothing.

  • we are going to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas.  Getting married on a Friday and leaving Sunday morning so we have a chance to unwind a bit in between.

  • Jamie- I really wanted a small wedding, and we didn't do it. Maybe I have the pre-wedding crazies right now, but God I wish we had just done something small. Out of 100 guests maybe 30 are for me and FI, the rest are for our parents. If you want something small, by all means, do something small.

  • we went to roatan, the monday after our saturday wedding. i'd say the best part was the resort, and having a full 2 weeks to stretch out there while sprinkling in the activities we wanted to do, without feeling rushed.
  • we're going to San Diego at the end of July for Comic Con.

We drove to Salem, MA. Stayed in an awesome B&B. We walked the entire time and ate delicious meals and shopped a lot. It was perfect and not that expensive!

ETA: forgot to say we got married on Saturday and left Sunday evening and drove straight through (never again!)
