[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Small car drivers... : Ha! Kelly, you DO seem to have bad luck. *KNOCK ON WOOD* I've only been in 2 accidents-one in highschool which was basically just a door ding, and the other in October, when I was rear ended. That one was no so fun.

To be fair, one was 3 weeks after I got my license at 16 (no other vehicles involved) and the other was not my fault. I was stopped and the teenager behind me hit the wrong pedal (gas instead of brakes), plowing into the back of me... it ended up being a 5-car accident total and my trunk basically wound up in my back seat.
  • I've have two Hyundais - I had a '03 2-door hatchback Hyundai Accent as my first car, which I adored - TONS of trunk space, it ran great and was awesome on gas, although it did have hand-crank windows and locks, lol! - and last summer I bought a 2010 Hyundai Elantra 4-door, which I love even more. It rides beautifully smoothly, it's great on gas (I'd say I average 37-83 mpg, and the new 2011/2012 models get even better gas mileage apparently), and I got a fantastic deal on it. My mom's had 2 Hyndais as well - 2 different Sonatas.  I can't speak highly enough of my Hyundai ... FI isn't looking to get a new car for 3-4 more years, but he's planning on a Hyundai as well. They're definitely not the economy crapboxes they were in the early 90s ...

  • I drive a Mazda 3 2.0 and my friend has the 2.3. I really like my car. It has good gas mileage, handles really well and looks nice too. It drives decently well in the snow. I used to drive a KIA optima and I slid off the road all of the time, which hasn't really happened in the two winters I've had my Mazda- if snow is a concern for you. H has a Honda civic and he really likes it. You can't go wrong with a Honda. There's a subaru that looks a lot like the Mazda 3. It's the sport version of one of their cars. I walk past one on my way to work and I always lust after it.

[QUOTE]I've been eyeing the Mazda 3 as well as the Ford Fusion. I would LOVE a Mini, but it's not at all realistic, because I need something with 4 doors. 1 4-door Mini is almost worth as much as 2 brand-new Mazda 3's

Ha, that's awesome.  I have a Mazda3, and FI drives a MINI.  Both are small, handle really well, and have plenty of pick-up.  The MINI is small/light enough that it occasionally doesn't handles snow very well, but that, other than the lack of rear doors, is our only real complaint about it.  Over the summer we test drove a Countryman (the 4-door MINI) and LOVED it... I suspect we'll be getting one when FI's current car bites the dust.  The size makes city driving much less harrowing.
So far, being a Gray is pretty awesome. image

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Small car drivers... : The FI was looking into this for another car. He said the ride was rough, but he wasn't driving the sport. Is there a noticible difference in the actual ride?

It's actually been said that the Sport is a rougher ride than the base model, because of the sport suspension. That's part of the tradeoff.
  • I have a Honda which is my sister's old car and I like it. My old car was a Saturn, I liked the size but it's not a good quality car. I've driven my mom's minivan and don't like it very much 'cause I'm not used to driving a big vehicle. On the other hand, a Toyata Tundra once backed into me 'cause he didn't see me, so sometimes driving a small car isn't so great. I prefer to blame that on the ginormous trucks than on the normal size car though. ;-) A smaller car just seems easier to handle with turns and such than a big one. I want a Mini Cooper, if it's a good quality car like Honda as opposed to Saturn. I don't actually know how good they are, but I like the look of them.
