Guest dress question

I have been invited to a friend of mine's wedding in July and my FI has also been invited to a friend of his-- we'll both be at each. My question is about what I will wear. I just bought a really cute cocktail dress which is a halter tie, with black ribbon triming the top and bottom-- but the rest of the dress is whte. Could I wear it, or would that be wearing white to a wedding-- a big no no.

Re: Guest dress question

  • A dress that's mostly white?  I wouldn't do it, personally.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • I wouldn't. If it were a print on a white background, that would be fine, but I don't think a bit of ribbon trim is enough to make it not a white dress. When in doubt, pick something else.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • I think wearing a white and black dress is fine, but the dress you described is a white dress with black trim.  There's a difference.  If the predominant color is white, don't wear it.  If white is part of a pattern, it's fine IMO

    This.

  • I'd wear dress with a print that happens to have a white background, but I wouldn't wear a solid white dress, even with a colored trim.
  • I'd avoid that dress.  Sounds nice but not for a wedding.
  • I accidentally clicked yes, but meant to click no.  If the dress is mostly white (rather than a print on a white background, or a half black/half white combo, then I'd find something else to wear.

  • Perhaps I'm strange... but as a bride, I wouldn't have cared if someone showed up in a mostly white dress as long as it was something more casual along the lines of a sundress.  Now a white formal dress is a different story.  A wedding is not the place to rewear a white prom gown.

  • I agree that you shouldn't wear it. I was feeling judgmental to a girl last week at my cousin's wedding for wearing a dress that was a VERY light grey...so much so that it looked white.
  • Sounds like too much white.  I'd pick something else.
No, that's not my real name. And FH's name isn't Nun (as in Nun ya bidness) either.

There's 75.2 other colors out there, why WOULD you wear a white dress?

I agree with and appreciate this logic.
  • This is what I figured, but it never hurts to get another opinion. I've decided to go with a green/black/white print dress with celtic knots! I'm so excited for my friend!
