Will & Kate - changing wedding trends?

Good morning ladies - I thought of you guys when I was reading the paper this morning!  Apparently women are now wanting tiered receptions because of Will and Kate!

Happy reading.  :)

Re: Will & Kate - changing wedding trends?

  • That just sounds like an overly expensive mess for us regular folk...

People are stupid. I didn't even read the article, but I can positively make that assertion without doing so.

If brides are really comparing themselves to royalty, then I doubt anyone can talk any sense into them.

  • Royalty > you.

If you (as a bride) are comparing yourself to Kate Middleton and the royal family, you really need a bitchslap in the face from reality.

Exactly. I would have thought they could have done better than that with all the money they have.
  • My favourite line from the entire article is "I walked away questioning every single decision about my own wedding."

    Seriously?!?

  • i believe her bouquet was flowers native to England - a royal tradition.
  • I loved the indoor trees.

Boys choirs???  WTF.  People are so ridiculous.  Do these brides also have taxpayers paying for their wedding?  Funny, watching the royal wedding reminded me of how much I loved my wedding, not what I'd change.

I actually liked her flowers. And I agree, these people who want to copy the royal wedding are BSC. Way to set yourself up for failure, no one else will ever be able to recreate their wedding.
  • I thought the flowers suited the style, but I just really like colour.  It's just my personal style.

  • The royal wedding also reminded me that my family is much better looking than the royal family.

[QUOTE]I can hear some BSC chicks saying "OMG, I need to marry someone in the military so he can wear his uniform to MY wedding." The Royal Wedding is great. Trying to copy it is just pathetic to me.

<div>I don't understand wearing military uniforms for your wedding.  My dad didn't wear his, and he is refusing to be buried in it, either.  All of his friends told him he was crazy not to do it.  Am I missing something?</div>
  • From what I have heard people say, tiered receptions are fairly common over there.  I don't think it's necessarily a royalty thing as an across the world thing....still wouldn't cut it in the US

Nope, I'm with you. Everyone keeps asking FI and his response is always "I love what I do but no one else has to get married in their work clothes, why should I?" Plus I thought Will's uniform was too much.

  • I love that people are trying to copy that.  Um hello...their wedding cost MILLIONS of dollars, if you honestly try to copy it, it's just going to look cheap and tacky.

  • Is there some genetic marker that some women are born with that makes them BSC over weddings?  Apparently, it kicks in at around age five and goes into full force after watching a royal wedding, Platinum Weddings or by reading the mags.  Eeesh!

Ditto PP.  The flowers she chose are traditional in England.

Apparently this, like the genetic marker that should have given me boobs bigger than Skipper's, missed me.  I sort of hate weddings.

It's also tradition for royal brides to have all white bouquets.

I was wondering how many totally non-religious people would now try to have a full Anglican mass just because Kate and Will did. That' would be really lame.

  • I wasn't impressed with the idea of brides flocking to have a morning ceremony because of the royal wedding. Mine is at 11am because that's when I wanted it...not because the royal wedding had a morning ceremony. Lame.

What's funny is that a morning ceremony is, by definition, more casual. Hence why the guests all changed into formal attire for the evening dinner ceremony. Not exactly the most. formal. wedding. ever. Though lovely just the same.
