Question regarding my seamstress

Hello again,

I have a sort of random question (I think - no one in my family/bridal party/work seems to know the answer to this one.)

I got my dress straight from the designer's flagship store (Pronovias NYC) and for an extra amount, I get unlimited alterations with one of their seamstresses.

I had my first fitting last month and she's wonderful!!!  But - I wanted to know - do you think it is appropriate to tip her or give her a gift or some token of thanks for all her hard work?  I suppose I could call the store to find out their policy, but was curious if you guys had had any experience with this?

Thanks!  :)

Re: Question regarding my seamstress

  • i wasn't planning on it honestly, but it is a good question.
  • I've never heard of tipping seamstresses, so I'd be interested to hear this answer as well.  I suppose it makes sense considering the amount of work that goes in to altering a wedding dress.

I didn't tip my seamstress because 100% of the fee I paid went to her.  You could find out where your fee is going by calling the store-does it go all to her or does she get a hourly rate only.  If they give her the entire fee, I would not tip more.  But, hey, it is a crappy economy and nobody I know turns down extra money.

  • I plan on getting my seamstress a really nice thank you card with a photo of the dress and possibly a small thank you gift card. But that is mainly because she is awesome and I love her.  I do not think it is necessary unless she goes above and beyond.
  • I didn't. my seamstress owned the shop I went to. all the money went to her. but she diidn't do anything above and beyond for me other than making my dress fit. it was such an easy alteration that it was done after only one fitting (the initial one). so I saw her twice: once to drop off my dress and allowed her to pin and tuck, next to try on and take it home because it was already perfect.
