I just found out I'm...wait for it...an aunt. The end of the world really is upon us.
  • Options
I really should be packing, I move in a week. Holy crap.

[QUOTE]JLHewitt would be a horrible replacement.  She was a guest star as an unstable rape victim, so to turn her around as a sex crimes detective just doesn't work for me.  Especially only a year later.

Yeah I remember that episode, that was nuts. I don't know how they would spin it, but I'm sure it would be something like "I was a rape victim so I want to get my badge to help others", etc. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

    Congrats on being an aunt.

    I hate moving and packing.

Why are you congratulating me? I have no desire to be an aunt.
  • Options
I hate the packing up part because it is such a wakeup call to how much crap I really have. Unpacking isn't as bad because you're in your new place and there is no rush to get it unpacked, unlike the rush to pack.

Luckily H will be with me at dinner tomorrow night so hopefully she doesn't say anything stupid.

My friends are going out tomorrow night as well and have invited me to go along for the first time since August. Hopefully dinner doesn't last too long so I can go out with them and leave Edmund with H for a couple hours since he got to go out and see Pirates last night with the guys.

Honestly, DNB, I'm in denial that SVU would ever end or that Benson/Stabler would "retire". ;)

I'm sorry. I felt the same way, but after I met my niece, I am happy to be an aunt.

That would be great for you, Ciara. Have you been able to go out yet by yourself? I'm guessing it would be hard for the first few times.

Me too MS.  They need to just stay on that show forever.  I saw Stabler was quoted saying that he thinks 12 years might be enough, and he wants to try some other acting options.  But I think he will ALWAYS be Stabler, so it will be impossible.

I went out for a couple hours on Sunday to my niece's birthday party. Other than that I haven't gone very far.

Yeah, when you have a role like that, you are pretty much stuck with that role---unless I guess the people watching you afterward have never seen SVU. Whenever I see him in other roles I just see him as Stabler. I also love Mariska Hargitay as a person too---she just adopted a baby and she has an amazingly big heart IRL (not just for that reason, but others too).

I can say that I have 5 nieces and nephews (youngest of 4 kids) and I love them to death. I don't want children yet but I love spending time with them when I can.

I also hate moving and packing.

Did that go well? I feel like it would be super anxiety-ridden for me. I got teary-eyed and upset just leaving my 8 week old Tory home when we first got her, and I had to go to class.

Hopefully, Jill, your sibling wants to be a parent?  Congratulations to him/her.  You can commiserate with me, I have one insanely spoiled nephew (luckily he's cute).  It's hard to spoil an infant the point where people can tell that he's spoiled (the child can't yet sit up).  I don't regret that BIL/SIL had the baby, but man is it hard to be excited to spend time with them now that the world revolves around the child.  Yes, they're the type to bring him to fancy restaurants.

    Agh!
So I was complaining to Fi that most of his friends and family haven't RSVP'd yet, and he goes," well, you put a date on it." Uh, yeah, of course I put a date on it. "Well, that's the day that it has to be sent out on"...*pulling my hair out*

He was only kidding, but I'm pretty sure 90% of his friends think this way...

Hi ladies! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Happy long weekend to my fellow Canadians.

Oh...and someone else wants to say hi.

Don't worry, I fixed her awkward position after I took the photo. :)

    That's awful.

I guess she's happy to be a parent. Though I was really surprised, since she used to be just like me on this subject. But I didn't pry because I felt it was none of my business. Either way, I'm just really not interested in being an aunt. The whole thing weirds me out and I fear that there will be expectations placed on me that I want no part of.

    Diane, she's precious!  Congratulations again!

    Diane- she is sooooo cute.

Daff-I don't know what your relationship is like with your sibling, but there were no major expectations from my family. I mean I send gifts on bdays, holidays. I do hold them and spend time with them etc. I am asked to babysit here and there, but usually the grandparents do that.

    Congrats Diane!

It went okay MS. I felt really bad while I was gone because his tape broke. I did feel guilty for going though.

I can understand that, even though there is not a reason to feel guilty, I totally get it even without having a baby of my own. I feel bad just leaving Tory alone for work all day even though she is a dog and it is totally normal for dogs to be alone while their owners work, lol.

I love kids, but I like my life without kids right now.  And I sort of hate having my world revolve around the kids of other people.  I don't mind playing with them from time to time, but at some point, I really love grown up time.  I'm sort of sad that with some of my friends (and now my in laws), grown up time went away.  :\

Ciara -- you can't help when things happen.  Sometimes you need time for yourself.

We took Edmund to Ivars at 6 days old and he slept through the whole thing.

Now he's fussy every hour or two and my mom wanted us to go to a fancy restaurant in Seattle tomorrow and I finally just didn't want to have to leave halfway through the meal if he started fussing.

I feel the same way, even though I also get baby fever every other week, heh.
