Happy Wednesday!

I'm up early doing homework (didn't get any done last night).  How are you all feeling today?  We're halfway to the weekend!

Re: Happy Wednesday!

  • Morning. It was a bad driving morning. First there was a big truck just stopped in the middle of the road, no lights of anything. I almost hit him after turning a corner. I guess he was broken down, but you'd think his flashers would work at least. Then I almost ran a red light because I was lost in my own head, thinking about ghosts. I got lucky that the light changed on time.

Today is my Thursday, yay! It's also the day of H's grandpa's funeral. I feel bad that I can't be there, but at least H is with family and can help his mom through the day.
  • Good morning!

I have a tiny tiny wine headache from last night.  I would like a nap, but I need to start looking at paint chips and buy a gift for my realtor today.
  • That's a cute story, cfas.

Damn it, TK is acting funky again.
  • Aw that's nice cfas.

    Morning....that's all I've got.
  • Aww, Cfas, that's great :)

We had a counseling session yesterday afternoon, which at first seemed like a terrible idea but really ended up being great.  We went out to dinner at like 5:15 (so early, but the place was empty and just starting to fill up when we left) and then came home and watched some TV.  It was a really great night.

H gave me a card that he picked up yesterday.  The card was cute, but what he wrote inside meant so much more.  I feel really, really good about how things are going. It was a good day :)

  • Good to hear about the counseling and card, bay. And H and I prefer going out to eat that early to avoid the crowds, no matter what day/holiday it is. Same with the movies, we try to go early afternoon on a weekday.

I'm strangely happy it rained last night and this morning. Now I don't have to water H's plants this afternoon. That takes FOREVER. There are so many plants.
  • What kind of plants, Seshat?  Herbs?  Flowers?  I think it's awesome that your H gardens, I kill most plants.

  • Bay, I am so happy you had a good Valentine's Day.

  • We've started going to earlier dinners too.  H hates loud, crowded restaurants.  Also, it's nice to have time afterwards to digest and relax before bed.
  • Cfas, we gave our gifts on Tuesday night because I couldn't wait to give him his.  I bought him the last three seasons of his favorite show, he got me pearl earrings.  He wasn't sure if we were going to have time yesterday morning (before work) to exchange gifts and he wanted me to wear them yesterday.  We're also like little kids when it comes to giving gifts.  He gave me the engagement ring the same day the jeweler called and told him it was ready; he was way too impatient to wait.

  • Bay, he has a bajillion plants. He has a small nursery set up at the house, so a lot of the plants he's raising for resale, mostly natives. I'd be here all day making a list of all the plants (the ones I know, anyway). "Our" plants are those in the garden and greenhouse (herbs, veggie sprouts mostly). He has sprinklers set up there so I don't have to worry about them. But I have to water the ones in pots while he's gone so the rain took care of it for me.

cfas, we will go see HG when it comes out too, but during the week. I refuse to go opening night/weekend.
  • Oh, Aleigh.  I'm sorry.  I hope that your BIL straightens out his life.
  • H GOT ME A LEMON TREE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY.  I've been asking for one FOREVER.  The picture is kind of hard to see, but look how cute it is!

Bay, I'm glad you guys had a nice Valentine's.

Cfas, you've got me wanting to try beef wellington.  I googled it yesterday and it looks delicious.  I'm glad yours turned out good.

Aleigh, has he gotten caught with it before or is this his first time?  First time with pot, as long as it's not enough to sell, shouldn't be too bad.

  • Did he have a lot on him, aleigh? I thought cops just slapped you with a big fine if you had weed on you unless you had a bunch and they thought you were selling it. Shows how much I know.

This sounds awful, but I wish every day that this guy H knows would get arrested. I think it would be his wakeup call. He has a kid, and one on the way, and every time I see him, he's stepping out of his car with a beer in his hand.
  • Sounds like you're talking about my BIL, Sesh.  I'm curious to see what happens when the baby arrives, and a little scared.

  • Which recipe did you use, Cfas?  I googled Gordon Ramsay's recipe and it brought up a bunch of different ones that were all supposed to be his.

  • Morning!  We had ana wesome relaxing night last night.  We got some pizza and bread sticks and had some wine while just relaxing watching tv.  We're also fans of going out earlier when we go out to eat to avoid the crowds and loudness.

Cfas that's a really cute story!

Bay I'm glad you guys had a good day and night yesterday and I hope things continue to look up for you, you deserve it!

I'm sorry about your BIL Aleigh, I hope he can get himself together.

Adamar I love the lemon tree, that's awesome!
  • Good morning!
Is it safe in here today?  I could barely read the threads yesterday.

Aleigh, sorry about your BIL.  I have no patience for that kind of immaturity, especially when there are kids involved.

Last night I made chicken noodle soup (FI and I have had bad colds, but FI has the worst of it right now).  I also gave him the deck of cards I made with reasons I love him.  I thought it was going to be a lame gift, but he actually really loved it and almost started crying with how thoughtful it was (he never cries).

I'm excited for this weekend.  Our office is closed for President's day, so it will be a 3 day weekend for me.  Fortunately this week seems to be going by quickly!

Cfas, I can't open the link you posted for some reason (I think work firewall), but did your beef wellington have foie gras or something else between the meat and pastry?

My mom makes this amazing recipie that is chopped sauteed mushrooms and almonds (I think) instead of foie.  I love it, but FI doesn't so the only time I get to have it is when my mom makes it.

  • Morning ladies, sounds like a nice evening was had by all (disclaimer, except you Aleigh, sorry your BIL is being a douche).  At some point he will hopefully realize he is responsible for the little ones and needs to act accordingly.

Sesh, I am with you.  Today is my Thursday.  Woot Woot for a four day weekend.  I am looking so forward to getting out of the "proverial" Dodge.

Admar, I love your lemon tree, will you eventually plant it outdoors?

Ski, I think we'll just pot it for now.  I'm not sure how much longer we'll be in our house, so I don't want to plant it in the ground just to have to yank it back out too quickly.

  • Very cool Admar.  I love to see the citrus groves each time we come to FL.  What lemondrops you will be able to have!  I would so like to be at that party!
  • cfas-
That sounds similar to what my mom does, except she also adds almonds to the mix.  I'm sure it was delicious!

  • Aleigh, I'm sorry :(  I hope he straightens up soon.  As unfortunate as it is, maybe this will be the wake-up call that he needs?

Thanks, ladies.  I'm pretty happy. :)

Adamar, your little lemon tree is so cute!  That was so thoughtful of your H.

  • Adamar, you should come visit me. Our landlord has a little grove in the front of the house with about 3 lemon trees, 3 grapefruit trees, a couple orange and lime trees, and fig trees. It's not that big, but I love walking through it and under the trees seeing all the fruit hanging of the branches.

ski, it's still a 5-day week for me. I worked Sunday so I could have Friday off for an event. My days are so messed up this week.
  • Seshat, I bet that little grove smells amazing when the fruit is ripening.

  • Morning!  We had a good night.  Exchanged cards (actually, I got home and there was a cute balloon, a single rose and 3 cards for me.  Apparently H couldn't decide what one to get.  So that was cute.  I made surf and turf with venison steaks and it was delish!

We were hanging out after dinner and H was all "wanna make a baby?"  I almost died, what with all the baby talk lately.  I'm still undecided.  Most of me wants one huge time, and part of me thinks we should wait a bit longer.  I don't know which part of me to listen to.  lol.

Bay - So happy you had a good night!

Aleigh - That sucks about your BIL.  I hope he shapes up soon.  You're poor sister.

Cfas - Did you take pictures?  If I had cooked something that elaborate, there would be photographic evidence.

A - I love your lemon tree!  Do you plant that, or keep it in the pot?

  • It does, bay. This will sound weird, but sometimes I just walk around it and pretend I'm lost in the woods somewhere. I've done this more lately to help get me in the mindset for the book I'm working on, since it's about an orange tree.

Oh! I almost forgot. There are also honeybees in there. One of our landlord's friends keeps those little bee box things along the edge. So we have to be careful not to get too close or they will attack (this has only happened once though). But, we do get fresh honey from them so that's awesome.
  • Luckily I don't have to go into for another hour so I'm just chilling with the dog.

We're doing V-day this weekend since FI thought he was going to have to work 12 hours yesterday.  I was pleasantly suprised by flowers at work (FI thinks they're a huge waste of money and could care less about them).  I was even more suprised that the two flowers the arrangement consisted of were two of the blooms I had picked out for our wedding flowers.

  • Awww, Baby Habs!  That is so sweet of your H!

Seshat, it doesn't sound silly at all.  We all need a little escape sometimes :)

Sesh that little grove sounds heavenly, I can imagine how good it must smell when all the trees have fruit!
