Family Affair

My nephews are 13 and 8 years old, and they desperately want to be a part of the wedding.  My sisters, brother, mom, dad, and niece are all included in the ceremony but I am having a hard time deciding how to include my nephews, I think they are too old to be ring bearers.  Any suggestions on how to include them?  Thanks!

  • Hand out programs. Or just have them help you with some DIY stuff, they will probably be bored to tears that they will stop asking. Or they could be really helpful.

  • Do they even want to be in the wedding?  They may be perfectly happy to attend as guests.  What about ushers?

  • Junior groomsmen? Keep in mind, though, that simply being a guest is an honor, so there's no real need to create a "job" for them during the wedding.

  • We were in the same boat with one of FI's nephews so we made him a Jr GM.  If that's not possible for your WP, then I agree with other posters - pass out programs or ushers.

  • They can be Ushers... but I am with P.P. after doing this for about 5 minutes, they will probably be bored out of their skulls
  • If you have a church with doors at the end of the aisle, they could open the doors at the beginning of the ceremony and then hold them through the duration of the bridal procession and close them again (quietly) at the end. Then find a seat at the back and open them again for the Bride and Groom's exit.  Its a small job, but it would probably be very exciting for them, and you could make up a name for the job and put it on the program. Plus, I think it would look very nice, rather than leaving the doors open through the ceremony.

  • We had my 11 y/o cousins and H's 10 y/o half-sister pass out programs.  We got them little corsages to wear, and they loved it.
