We are too...it was funny the shelter liked the name so they named a new dog Ziva, my friend who fosters named her three pups Zeke, Zaida, and Ziva so one day at the vet they handed me HER Ziva and I was like I know it's not common, but you handed me the wrong Ziva.  A few people thought in the waiting area just looked at me like huh?

Don't worry the name will catch on!

    This is Kodi

He's 5 yrs old. He's a blue merle Australian Shepherd. We got him when he was 7 weeks old from a lady that breeds aussies. The lady told us she thought he was going to turn out small becuase he was the runt, but he turned into a full sized 50-60 lb aussie. He LOVES to play and always wants affection. He's a huge crybaby too.

    This is Lulu

She's going to be 3 yrs. old his month. She's a red tri color Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We got her when she was 4 months old. She was also the runt of the litter and the people we got her from said she had the best personality of all the puppies in the litter. She's very independent but loves to play and snuggle also. She keeps Kodi in check and she's definately the boss in their little pack.

Edit: I forgot to add Faith (FI's little girl)

FI rescued her from the pound. We think she's about 2 yrs. old. And she looks like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. She's really short in stature but she's all muscle. She loves to play ball and loves affection and loves to cuddle up with you. When my FI first saw her at the pound she was all mangy looking and not so pretty. But after he adopted her, he took her to the vet and got some medicine and took care of the mange problem. Now he gets compliments on her all the time. She extremely well behaved and has never shown any sign of aggression toward anyone. She's such a sweet heart.

I just tried to read up on a favorite blogger of mine and I couldn't.  It was too sad and I couldn't deal with it today.  There is so much BS going down in the NYC shelters that it makes me question everything.  Why are people working in the shelter if they are neglecting the animals?  Go do something else with your time, asshat.

This is what I was trying to read & then decided I wanted to talk about my dogs on E instead:

  • I don't have a picture of my cat Alex, but he is a 16 pound, tuxedo marked Maine coon mix.  When people first meet him they comment either on his size or his beauty.  He is also the Will Rogers of cats; he has never met a person he didn't like.  Since he is a member of my family, I wanted him in my wedding party.  He was the ring bearer.  A friend made a very small, satin pouch with a white lace ribbon which attached around his body.  I really wanted him to walk down the aisle but, because the ceremony site was tented, we decided that posed too many risks so my nephew carried him in and down the aisle.  Of course, none of the guests knew he would be the ring bearer so there was a big Awww as he came in.  He also was a shelter cat, and I selected him because he was the first cat who stuck out his paw when I walked by his cage, and it was truly love at first sight.  I've had him now for nearly three years, and we have only grown more in love every day.

Sorry - Just saw this. Yes, we have 4 dogs! (what were were thinking?) It's crazy, but we love them all. We consider Pepper and Bosco to be one dog though since they're both small and tend to share things, like the crate. Lobo is our largest at over 60lbs. We're not even sure how old he is. The shelter had 7months on the paperwork, but he was beyond puppy stage when we got him. The vet thought he was closer to 11months.

Bosco is the littlest, but I think he scares Lobo. He tends to growl at him because he's a little possessive of us. So if Bosco is on my lap and Lobo comes over for a pet, Bosco will growl. Other times though he walks up to Lobo like he wants him to lick his ears and cuddle with him. He's so strange.

ETA: And we had the first three dogs when we lived in a third floor apartment when we first moved to VA. That was crazy having to take all three of them out down three flights of stairs every day. I'm so glad we found a house with a huge fenced in yard.

To the people who foster/rescue, you're doing great work. Maybe one day I'll try fostering. I just don't think I could let go.

I don't have great pics handy, but I found some from my dad's FB account. All three are humane society adoptees and live with my parents. I only moved out a year and a half ago and didn't want to disrupt their posh lives. They have access to a nice yard and always have someone at home (my parents are retired).

This is Tabitha. She is 16 and a half years old. I adopted her right before I started high school. She was up to 18 pounds at one point, but is now a petite 9lbs. Despite her age, she's actually more active since losing the weight. She is a total lap cat and is an expert at human manipulation. If I ask her if she's hungry, she'll meow in reply.

Here's Tabitha with Lucy, who is now 7. Lucy and her sister were found near a grocery store and brought to the humane society. She's now a 14lb bruiser. I've never seen such a muscular cat. This photo is a few years old, so Lucy is smaller and Tabitha is bigger in the photo than they are now. Lucy's also the only cat I know who likes to go outside in the rain. She will walk through puddles in the back yard.

18lb Tabitha with 2lb baby Lucy in 2003.

And here is Natassia. She's 14 and a husky/white german shepherd mix (my best guess). She's going deaf and had some medical problems earlier this year. She could barely walk back in March. Last week we took a jog around the block. She's become kind of a whiny dog as she's gotten older, and she follows my mom around everywhere.

We also feed a feral calico cat named Cali. She's extremely shy, so the only pics I have are from really far away.
  • I want a cat soo bad. My dad and FI both hate cats so I'll never get to own one. The only cat that I kinda owned was a ferel cat I named Henry. At first he would run at the sight of me but after a few months he warmed up to me and eventually would let me pick him up. Every morning without fail, I'd open the door and there was a huge "MEOW' and Henry would be right there waiting for me to give him breakfast. It was the funniest thing. I'm glad a caught a video of that becuase he's not around anymore. He just decided one day that he wasn't going to make my house his home anymore. I did see him once across the street from my FI's house (he lives a block away from me) but I didn't see him again after that. I miss my Henry Cat.
