Rings

My future MIL said that I shouldnt see my wedding band. But I dont think its going to have a different affect on me. Besides saying its beautiful. And at the wedding I think I would be so nervous that I wouldnt even give it much thought until later that evening.

So is it ok to see my wedding band before the wedding.

Re: Rings

  • Most people pick out their rings, so they definitely see them before the ceremony. Mine's sitting in my jewelry box right now, and my wedding's 4 months away. I see it every day. You'll be fine. I've never heard anyone say that before.

  • Yes. Unless you and your FI have made some sort of agreement not to. Why does your FMIL care?

  • Of course...many couples choose to go shopping together for their wedding bands. There's nothing wrong with seeing your band before your wedding day...you're going to be wearing it for a long time, so it's understandable to want to have a say in choosing it!

umm...yes.  In fact, I think most people help pick out their own wedding band.  I have never actually heard of anyone not seeing their wedding band before their wedding.

  • Call me picky, but I'm choosing my own wedding band. Actually, we're taking a ring my mom gave me and making that into my wedding band. Same thing.

    Totally!

My FI & I picked ours out together in January 3 weeks after we got engaged. Both bands have been in my jewelry box ever since.
  • I have never heard of seeing your wedding band being bad luck! Is she from another country (if so, I'm curious- always find other ppl's traditions/superstitions interesting)?

You should choose your own wedding band, something to compliment your engagement ring, so you'll definitely be seeing it before the wedding!
  • I see my wedding band every once in a while....both our rings are in the jewelry bag, I don't see anything wrong with it. It would be weird to wear it before the wedding but to see it ?  Nope
  • I can't imagine not seeing my wedding band and trying it on.  I have to make sure it fits!

  • The ring I got for NotFroofy was a surprise.  I knew she wanted one to match the one she was giving me, but she'd been told that was impossible, since the one she was giving me was 22 karat, which is rare in this country.  I therefore found a 22 karat gold one on eBay UK for her, and didn't tell her until afterward.  However, she still saw it well before the ceremony.
  • OMG, I can't believe you saw the ring!!!

I'm pretty sure that you've just completely destroyed your marriage!

  • We designed my wedding band using my grandmothers & great grandmothers diamonds. It wraps around my e-ring and my fi presented both to me when he proposed. Right now it is sitting in my safe.

  • I picked out my ring, and I love it, love it.  You have to wear it forever.  Choose your own!
  • my jeweler made me try mine on before he would release it. there's no way I couldn't have seen it.

My FI didn't want me to see mine, but I insisted because I had mine custom made to match my engagement ring and I wanted to make sure it was what I wanted good thing i did because it didn't fit my finger its had to go back to the jeweler three times now. In my opinion if you want to see it you should I've never heard of that being bad luck.
  • Of course it's ok! I designed mine and then when we went to pick it up, tried it on to make sure it fit. And then periodically tried it on until the wedding just because I loved to look at it.
  • It's completely okay and pretty much a necessity. I've never heard of it being bad luck. Knitti brings up a good point and I'm curious too - is your FMIL from another country and so is this a tradition elsewhere?
