Generic Yaz?

I was offered the generic Yaz (BCP) this month and took it to save a few bucks.  I have been dealing with some intense nausea for five days now, some all day, some for a few hours.

Has anyone else made the switch, and have you had any bad side effects?

TIA

Re: Generic Yaz?

  • I got headaches on the generic, but only during the "off" pills time.  Never heard of constant nausea though.  Did you find anything online?
  • I just finished my first month of it and didn't have any bad side effects.  I know several other girls on the board just switched too but I can't remember anyone's name.
  • I'd tried Yaz itself some years ago and felt the same way - I didn't even want to try a generic of it as it would be the same formula.

I briefly did think you were talking about the English duo.
  • I'm on generic Yaz and the only side effect has been the extra $20 in my pocket this month!

On a side note, I think we are going to take your recommendation and check out Surrender when we come to Vegas in August.  I'll holla at ya if we do!

  • I had the same problem. The nausea went away after the first month. It's better if you eat something.

  • I am just finishing my first month on the generic Yaz (Gianvi). The first couple of weeks seemed ok, but I've noticed a lot of nausea during the last week or so.  I didn't have that with the brand name Yaz.  Also (sorry if this is TMI) I've noticed my breasts have been a bit swollen.  I'm gonna give it another month, then either suck it up and pay for the brand name, or talk to my doctor about switching to another kind if this continues.

And for the record, no I'm not pregnant - that was the first thing my coworkers asked the other day when I complained about being nauseous haha.

am running iTunes, Only You has just started playing. True story.

and on that note, thanks for playing along ;^)
  • If you want to switch back to brand name, go to the YAZ US website.  They have a savings card that you can print and take to your pharmacy like an insurance card.  It makes it so you can get brand name YAZ for no more than $25 a month!  I was about to switch too, until I found this savings card.

I was just about to post this.... once your card expires, keep checking their website because they renew them all the time.  The most I've gone inbetween the "discount card" is about two months.

  • Habibi (I love that word)....my love of Depeche Mode was developed by my first bf whose first love was Yaz, one of their major influences.  Which I am sure you already know....cuz you just seem very cool like that.

The nausea has started to subside..  I hope I don't get the swollen bewbs.  I had these horribly the first 6 months of Yaz.

Is the discount card only if you don't have insurance?  I used to pay 22 for Yaz, now I ay 5 for generic.

Ironically enough we had decided that this month would be my last month of pills.  Just to see what happens.

Thanks, isn't a sweet word? FI taught me that from the Arabic he'd picked up from living in Dubai. omg you like Depeche Mode too, they're awesome!

    Hope your nausea goes away.
  • Girl...Depeche Mode is my generation!  I graduated high school in 1990.  David Gahan's voice still gives me chills sometimes.

I spent a couple weeks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 1999.   I dated a boy from Abu Dhabi, who I met while he was in college in the US.  Dubai was just on the verge of all of those crazy developments.  Very cool experience.  So sweet that you got to live there with the kittehs for a while!  I read your background in the other post.  And I liked it:)

Yes, his voice is really something.

Oh that's so cool you had a national to show you the area. Did you prefer Abu Dhabi or Dubai over the other? I'd actually be really interested to see the two of them before the crazy developments. Er, Abu Dhabi's regular development and Dubai's crazy kind.

Aww thanks, I like you too! :^)

If it makes you feel better... When I have to fill my prescription, it cost me $75 a month for the brand-name. My OBGYN gives me tons of free samples, but I've still had to fill it a few times. It's close to $3/pill.
  • :)

I spent most of my time in Abu Dhabi.  It was cool, but not necessarily beautiful.  Does not have a very Arabic "feel" to it....because it is so new and developed.  I did some pretty cool things.  Went to a polo match, and an after party with one of the Sheik's he worked for where they had a bunch of Egyptian girls there belly dancing.  He snuck me in his childhood house, which was a compound his dad owned where men only were allowed.  His dad's 4 wives all lived in diff countries.  I got to go to his country house near Jumerih (sp?).  Their homes are sooooo elaborate and overdone and gaudy.  Donald Trump times a thousand.

I loved the prayer calls.   It was so cool to hear it over the city.

Dubai definitely had more going on.  We were only there for 3 days.

    Poli...$75!!  Holy moly.
