And that may be true, language evolves. When Nebb say "gay" I highly doubt that she's trying to say, "WOW! WHAT A HOMOSEXUAL RESPONSE!"

And I also doubt that she's try to say, "HOMOSEXUALS ARE STUPID!"

But the word had evolved from what it originally meant...twice. I mean, gay really means happy, but then it meant (and still means) homosexual, and now it means dumb.

    KWIM?

  • I thought the whole amoro/epic thing was a little reaching, like you wanted to participate in FFF but couldn't really think of anything right away and had to search for content.    But I don't think you meant anything bad towards amoro by it.   I agree its getting way over analyzed.  (says the girl who just analzyed it some more)

I also think the moose siggy thing from the beginning of this thread was just weird.  Yeah, her siggy was huge and annoying and I was kind surprised no one (especially p2) has said anything.  But why didn't any of the people complaining about no one saying anything do so either?  Personally I just blocked it and forgot about it, but if youre so bothered by it that you want someone to call her out about it, DO IT YOURSELF.

I kind of enjoy that cew has moved boards for the most part.  I don't dislike cew and have really never interacted with her, but its nice that threads aren't turning into cew love fests anymore just because she came in and said something random and "funny."   Maybe I just never got the "funny" but I'm happy to see that that whole deal has fallen by the wayside.

I try to stay away from the word gay, because I know people who ARE gay who are offended by that and think it perpetuates the gay = stupid and something I don't want to be stereotype. BUT I also think there's a huge difference between a dumb homophobic meathead using the word and Nebb or Lala joking with it, knowing the implications of the word full well.

  • I know what you mean Mery. I have gay friends that hate the word "gay" being thrown around loosely, and I have gay friends that say it in the 'offensive' way. I think it just depends on the person.

I'm not a stranger to saying gay or retarded to basically say that something is stupid, but I also am careful in who I say that around or with.

Here, I don't say things like that, because you never know who is reading. But if it's just H and I, then I'm not worried, because he's not offended by it.

Moral of the story? Know your audience, I suppose.
  • Okay let's not get into the is it okay to say gay, retarded, nazi, gypped debate again lol! This happens every few months.
