OK, that sucked.

But I made it back from my colposcopy in one piece.  It hurt more than I thought it would, but mainly because I thought I was making too big a deal out of it.  The doc took two biopsies, and now we play the waiting game for the results.  So much fun being a woman!  Now I am lying on the couch watching DVR and I am SO glad I took the whole day off from work, I have cramps something awful.

Thanks to everyone for the support last night.

Re: OK, that sucked.

  • I hope you feel better soon....and that everything comes back alright.
  • Do you have a heating pad?  It could be your best friend.

Also, after anything fertility/reproductive/gynecological related, SO owes you ice cream.

I vote we make this a Knot law.

I also took a narcotic when I got home.  But just because I lived with pill heads when I had it done and they were everywhere.

  • I saw your post this morning, but was too late to reply.  I'm glad you made it through ok!  I had to have one last year and was glad I did it in the afternoon so I could go home afterwards because it was pretty crampy.  Feel better and I hope you get good results!

  • Hope everything comes back OK.  The couple times I've got a colposcopy, I've had crazy cramps after too.  Take some advil and maybe a nap if you can!

  • Hi, I don't post much and missed the post from last night but I just wanted to throw it in there that I also hope everything comes back ok and that you feel better soon.  I went through all of this a couple of years ago and I know how stressful it is waiting for the results.  Good luck!

  • Yeah H took the day off and he's being very sweet.

The worst part was, I started crying in the exam room as soon as it was over.  I am such a wimp!  I was trying so hard to hold it together, but I just couldn't.  The doctor kept asking if I was OK, and I was like, yes, I'm just being a baby.
  • I hope everything comes back okay, Abbalish!

I had a colposcopy (which I barely remember) followed by a LEEP a few weeks later.  The LEEP was mostly uncomfortable.  I was cleared of all problems after the LEEP.

I remember being totally scared and worried about ALL of this.  Once it was over, I asked some of my friends about it and, turns out, many of them went through the same thing.  I wish I had spoken up sooner because it's not all that abnormal.

    Good luck!! :)
  • I hope everything is clear, Abba! Feel better.

Aw, sweetie.  Of course you did!  Who wouldn't?  That's not wimpy - that's perfectly natural.  I hope you feel better soon, and that you get good answers, and quickly.

I cried, too.  It was scary, embarrassing, painful, stressful...ugh...
My doc was a total douche.  I had a male doc, and he was like "This doesn't hurt."  and I'm like "Eff you.  You don't even HAVE a cervix, how do you know?"

And I bawled the whole time during the LEEP.

He's not my doc anymore.  I tried to tell myself gender didn't matter in a gyno.  I was lying to myself...

  • Glad I'm not the only crybaby :)

My doctor pretty much admitted that she tries to make the whole thing sound like not a big deal.  To me, anything that makes you bleed for a week or more is a big f-ing deal!  If I do need the LEEP I want to ask about anaesthesia.

I don't think I could take a male doc seriously with this kind of thing...even though I asked my doc if she'd ever had one and she said no!
  • Yeah, you're definitely not alone on the crying part - I cried through mine and I also cried through the LEEP - I was an emotional wreck during both.

  • Hmm... perhaps I'm made of stone.  I didn't cry during the colposcopy or the LEEP.  I was nervous about the situation, of course, but my doctor just smiled and kept telling me that these things happen.  It's not unusual.  I'd be fine.  And she was right.  It'll be okay, Abbalish!

Fun story: I had the LEEP done in an OR of a major hospital.  It was a teaching hospital, so I was in there all kinds of med students.  I just chatted with the anethesiologist the whole time but there were at least two 23 year old guys in the room.  Luckily, I was too nervous to be embarrassed :)
  • Umm joy....that would be my worst nightmare!  I could not handle 23 year old dudes anywhere near my exposed ladyparts!
  • hahaha.  I had the right to say no.  But, I just said "whatever, let's get this over with."  Everyone was super professional.  They all gave me a round of applause when it was over because I refused anesthesia.  I'm not sure what that was about.  People have LEEPS with and without all the time.  You can definitely have it if you want it if your doctor does them in an OR.

And seriously, Abbalish.  I've been through this.  I had a bad reading after my colposcopy: CIN III.  But, I had the LEEP and have been healthy ever since.  If you want to chat about it, just PM me.  I'm happy to share what happened.
  • Joy, did they at least ask you if it was ok that they were in there?? :(

I'm sorry ab. I hope you feel better soon. I know some people are private about these type of things, but I'm coming to find that it's more common for girls to have experienced this kind of stuff than not.

There's still nothing wrong with crying though! I'm the kind of person who will cry even when I'm not sad. It's like my body's way of releasing emotion, no matter what type of emotion it is. When I"m really stressed or freaked out or anything I sometimes start crying and can't stop myself. I always feel embarrased, but I totally feel better afterwards!
  • Feel better soon! The after cramps sucked for me too. And I cried after my third one because I was just so frustrated with the entire situation. For the LEEP I was just angry.
  • Huge Hugs, Abbalish. I would totally have cried too. I've got all fingers and toes crossed that everything turns out ok!
