c/p Airsickness

I also posted this on 1st Tri, but since I am slightly afraid of the puppies, rainbows, and H1N1 fest they have over there, I thought I would see if the p&e'ers have any suggestions.

I may be pregnant. This is causing a problem because I am supposed to fly to SoCal on Saturday, and I get air sick. Normally, I would just pop a couple of Dramamine and be fine. But, reading the labels, I saw that Dramamine shouldn't be taken while pregnant.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can take that is considered "safe" for pregnant women?

I emailed my doctor, but since it is Christmas Eve, I doubt I will get a response.

I am going to post and run, as I am off work and need to go home, but I will check as soon as I get there.

Re: c/p Airsickness

  • Well, there are warnings for everything, including Tylenol which is pretty much okay'd by most doctors.

    My safe list says:
phenergan, zofran (I believe those are rx only)
    ginger tablets
    unisom and vit b6 3x a day
    sea bands

...these are probably more for m/s though.

If I were you, I'd get a First Response Early Result since those are the most sensitive.

  • Oh, and I also have to ask - does 'might' mean you missed your period or there's just a chance?  Because if you haven't even missed your period yet, people generally think that everything is still okay before implantation.  There are people that even drink during the 2ww.

  • Well, that is what makes it a might.
    Possibly yes signs:
I am now 4 days late for my period. Tested and got a positive using an Early Result otc test. My breakfast almost made me throw up this morning. No period symptoms, at all.

    Possible no signs:
Tested after receiving the positive result and got 2 negative tests (using same brand, same time of day, same early result test).
  • Thanks for the med list! I was going to try the sea bands at least. Maybe I will pick up some of the other stuff also. I bet what works for morning sickness will also work for air sickness.
  • Hmm, well the sensitivity can vary from test to test, but if you're 4 days late you should start having a build up of hcg.

I tested with $ tree tests and the line was suuuuper faint (even with fmu), and I started the day before my period was supposed to come b/c I didn't have any symptoms.  Got the overwhelming + with a FRER the next day, in the evening because I was impatient.

I would test again tomorrow and see, but it could be a chemical pregnancy.  :(

In the meantime, I'd try the seabands.

  • You could also do ginger snaps, just make sure they have real ginger in them - many cookies don't (false advertising?).

  • How can you have ginger snaps without ginger? Isn't that the point of a ginger snap?

I was going to try testing again tomorrow and see what I got. I was hoping Mother nature would end the debate by having my period come, so that way I wouldn't worry about traveling. My gut is leaning towards it having been a chemical pregnancy, just because it is odd that I got a positive result first, then negative ever since. But, just in case it isn't, I am trying to be careful, as I don't want a mutant baby. It will have enough obstacles to over come with the genes we are passing on, don't want to add more...
  • Re: ginger snaps - if you read the ingredients, you'd be surprised.  I was sick when I was on the Tamiflu (thought it was m/s, but it wasn't) and got some, but had to read the labels.

Hmm, Dramamine is a category B drug, which means it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby.  It still recommends talking to a dr, but even Tylenol is like that.

GL with the testing - I hope you get a bfp as an xmas gift!  It's not unheard of.

  • Sucrets, you are awesome! Thank you for the information.

And I really hope to give Scott a bfp for Christmas. It is the gift that just keeps on taking for the next 18+ years. Laughing
  • In any case, good luck! Apologies if I am late to this thread, but I also get airsick and I feel your pain. I tend to avoid the medication, although I did used to take ginger tablets which helped (and would likely be fine for you to take). Perhaps try the pharmacy at the airport (if there is one? some airports have them) and see if they have any suggestions.
