no best man at rehearsal and dinner

My best man ( FIs older brother) has a wedding for his best college friend the day before my wedding. If hs goes, he will miss the rehearsal and dinner. I don't know if this ia a big deal or not. He hasn't ever been in a wedding and I really don't know what his duties will be. I don't want to be selfish and make him miss his friends day just bc of my rehearsal. What do you think?

  • As long as he knows where he is to get dressed and where to stand or if he is walking down the aisle he should be fine. The only other "tasks" FI's brother is doing for us is the Thursday before picking up the tux rentals and the Monday after returning those along with the speaker sound system.

  • He pretty much just has to go and stand some place... maybe walk down an aisle.

It's not going to be a big deal if he misses it.

  • He should attend the wedding and skip the rehearsal.  The best man doesn't have to do anything except stand up with the groom.  He'll be fine.

  • No big deal at all.  The rehearsal is just as stated..."rehearsal'.  He can catch up easily enough the next morning.

The only duty he has is to show up the day of.

Relax and know all will be ok :)

  • I was my brothers best man and missed the rehearsal.  It was OK.  (Also, had never been in a wedding.)  The BM duties go like this:

    Stand.
    Walk.
    Stand.
    Hand over the rings.
    Walk.

    Wait, wait, wait.

    Toast.

  • Just tell him to watch the best man in the wedding the night before. BOOM. Rehearsal done.

That makes perfect sense to me!

  • My matron of honor won't be at our rehearsal. I figure if everyone else knows what they're doing then it'll be simple for her to slip in. It shouldn't be complicated enough for it to really matter.

  • FutureMrsTR's advice wins.
  • Only 2 people in our WP made our rehearsal and everything went just fine. All he has to do is walk and stand. You can show him where his spot will be before the wedding starts.

  • We didn't have a rehearsal.  People walked, stood, walked, and toasted just fine.  Our DOC just told them when to do what that morning.

  • Most of our wedding party didn't make it to the rehearsal either as most of them were out of town.  Everything went fine.  We had a great banquet manager at the venue that coordinated everything for us.
  • You could also have someone (parent maybe?) record your rehearsal on a camera phone or something and he could watch it the next day if he's worried about not knowing how things will play out.
