Do you know what an Australian is?

And no, I'm not talking about Australians like aMrs and Sun. I'm talking about a cocktail called an Australian. If you've heard of a drink called an Australian, please tell me your recipe for it.

[QUOTE]Now that you've got me thinking about Australia, I would like to change my original answer to "beer". Everyone I know who has visited Australia has drank a ton of beer over there, and very little else (but rum).

This is a statement that definitely helps prove my theory. Carry on.

That's because the mass produced rum here is bad. just don't do it. And I was told that by MANY Aussie before I ever stepped foot in the country. Rule is, overseas guests have to bring the legal allotment of Mt Gay or Goslings rum with them if they want free room and board.

And Lauren, that's the first time I've ever been called and Australian. Most refer to me as an expat.

  • FYI- The most consumed alcohol in Australia is wine and not beer (#2) and there is no such drink called an Australian!
  • aMrs, a lot of people drink OP Bundy Rum, though...

And I have absolutely no clue what an Australian is (other than myself).

There is no way that our competition with the Kiwi's (affectionate term for New Zealanders) would allow us to incorporate their flavour into a drink to represent us!

Just because they drink it doesn't mean it's very good. It's just 1/2 the price of the Mt Gay. Even I would rather not drink than pay those prices.

Cane Fire Rum out of WA is really good.

H wouldn't touch rum and thought it was disgusting. I had been hearing complaints from Aussie sailors for years about the Bundy so I made H just try the Mt Gay. Now instead of bringing whiskey through customs, he grabs two bottles of rum!

ETA: H just brewed some beer and I'm not sure why. I've only seen him drink two beers in the 4 months we've been back.

  • I'm pretty sure my boss made up a drink. He drinks what he calls an Australian, and totally expects bartenders at restaurants to know what it is. At first, I thought it was just a drink I've never heard of, but I'm pretty sure now he just made it up. I figured if I asked in international board and not one person had ever heard of an Australian, it was something he made up on his own. Confirmed. Thanks ladies. BTW, what he calls an Australian is vodka on the rocks, with a splash of gin. Groooooooss.
