Williams-Sonoma "Bride and Groom Cookbook" - You have it?

I got it from my mom from my bridal shower and (even though I know I'm not supposed to) I busted it out a few weeks ago and have made a few recipes with it. I was so excited because some of the recipes looked incredible and simple, but I've been pretty disappointed so far with the three I've tried. Undecided

I know several gals that got it from their weddings, so I'm sure it's a common gift. If you have it, can you recommend any particular recipes from the book? Just curious!

Thanks!

  • Re-gift it.
    :-)
  • I have it! Have you tried the omelette recipe? I promise it's good and it finally makes sense out of making the perfect French omelette.

That's a good idea. But I love how much reference information is in the book too. Lots of helpful hints for setting up a kitchen, preparing holiday meals, etc. I think I'm going to keep it for that information if nothing else. But I'm dying to find a good recipe in the book.

In defense of the book, we just moved into our new home so we have not completely unpacked kitchen supplies. Therefore, the three recipes I chose were probably the most simple I could find and probably not things I would have chosen to make had I been completely prepared.

    The mussels look incredible.

I haven't tried that! Thanks for the tip!

The Fettuccine with Roquefort and Lemon would have been good I'm sure if I hadn't used a bit too much Roquefort cheese. It was my first time using that cheese and it is so much stronger than I knew. Don't use more than is called for! You'll end up with an entire recipe's worth sitting in the fridge being avoided like the plague. I hate to throw it away, but I need to figure out a way to cut the sharpness. Maybe more heavy cream...

  • Not that one, but my SIL has one that's 20 min meals or something (Easy cooking? I really can't remember what it's called - I'm useless) from WS and she's made almost every recipe and they're amazing.

I'm wondering if you just got the three not to great ones to try first. I'd give it a little more time before considering it a failure.

Yeah, you're definitely right. There are so many recipes in the book, I'm sure there are a ton of wonderful ones I've yet to try.

  • Someone got it for us. To be honest, we haven't made many recipes from it because they're not our style and (snob alert) most were things that were simple enough that we don't use a recipe for those dishes. The eggplant "caviar" was a decent appetizer, though.
