Catholic wedding ceremony help

Hi knotties,

I was wondering if any of you can give me advice on catholic weddings. I'm RC but my fiance isnt. He is taking lessons now though to be baptized. I wanted to know of anyone who has experienced with how long it will take and what the our parish would need. My mom was telling me about bans and stuff. I don't know anything about that. Also, just an estimate, how much does a church charge for having a wedding ceremony there? Can we pick which preist does it?

Thanks <3

Re: Catholic wedding ceremony help

  • Hi, you should probably go to the parish and speak to them -  they will need information about your sacraments and you will have to go through some preparation (can be different some people go for a weekend, there are some day retreats, some speak to other couples, etc. ) as far as how long it takes depend on the parish - they do have to post banns but what takes the longest is probably coordinating the pre canna - Also as far as cost that also depends - so I suggest you call and ask
  • You should speak with someone from the Church. Each Church may have a different price for the ceremony- from what i've seen, it's usually between $500 and $750. The cost is usually less for members. To answer your other question, we did not get to choose our priest.
I used the site below a lot when planning our wedding ceremony (general information about a Catholic wedding ceremony)
