When to give gifts to WP? (XP: Wedding Party)

We are getting gifts for the wedding party and the officiant (who's a friend of ours). We're not having a rehearsal dinner, shower, or bachelor/ette parties, so when is a good time to give them their gifts? Must it be done at the wedding, or can we send their gifts after the wedding?

  • I guess it depends on what you are getting them, and if any of them are flying to the wedding.   I am always wary of giving people things that they have pack into their suitcase to take on a plane -- with carry-on rules and weight limits, I don't like to assume that people can easily take things back with them.   If it's something small like a necklace/cuff links, perhaps a book, then you might be okay.  But a large "goodie bag" might be too much for people who are flying back.  In that case, I would give them a nice handwritten note on wedding day, and send the gift to their home after.

If the items are small, and nobody is flying, then it's obviously not a factor:-)   I think wedding day (before the craziness starts) is a good time.

  • I love the idea of giving a card on the wedding day itself and sending the gift later.

  • It depends on what you're getting them.  I'm getting my bridesmaids jewelry to wear in the wedding so I'm going to give it to them at the rehearsal dinner.
