We are going to LONDON for our one year anniversary AND to watch the NFL game!!

HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

Re: GOOD NEWS!!

  • Pretty freaking awesome!
  • I'm jealous. That sounds like a blast!

  • Tres awesome!  :)

    When is your anniversary?
  • You're going to see the Broncos, yay!  And I love London.  I'm jeeeealous!
    image
  • Well, it'll technically be the week after our anniversary, which is on the 24th.  The game is the 30th.  We'll be going a couple days beforehand so we can tour around. :)
  • If you get a chance, go visit the Saatchi Gallery, near the London Eye. That is one of the coolest places I have ever been.

  • That's awesome! Should be a good game.

  • That'll be fun! Which team are y'all rooting for?
  • Fun! I love London - frighteningly expensive on a Chilean salary but oh so fun. Have you been before? Do you know what you guys are going to do?
  • OMG I am so jealous.  Have a great time!

  • Oh, I'm dragging H to all the historical stuff. :D  I'll probably be rooting for Denver. :)
  • What fantastic news! I'm uber jealous. For our anniversary this year, DH has to work a normal shift (1:00 PM to closing), and I have to work late for Open House. Go us.
  • Very awesome!

Have fun, Amoro.  Take lots of pictures.  :)

  • Um, freaking awesome! The most totally-worth-it places in London, IMO, are the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey. Have fun! I'm so jealous! I can't wait to go back to the UK. (FI and I decided we're going to Scotland again for our 25 year anniversary.)

  • I was disappointed that the Tower of London didn't have a lot of medieval torture devices on display. LAME.

  • Super jealous, party of me. I lurve London!

Tower of London is cool if you have an awesome beefeater/tour guide. I thought the London Eye was fun and I would hit St. Paul's cathedral and hike to the top before I would stand in line for Westminster Abbey again.

  • When I was in London, we didn't make it to St. Pauls. My grandmother took me when I was 14, and something about an upcoming Royal Wedding to be held in St. Paul's about a month after we were there, she decided that it would be too much of a madhouse with all of the tourists.
  • Westminster Abbey audio guide is totally worth it in my opinion. And if you want to see as much as possible in a short time (which we did the last time we were there), take a Big Bus Tour. Hop-on/hop-off buses can be super cheesy, but all 3 of us on the trip found this one really interesting, and it was a good way to maximize our time. Plus it was transportation between the different sights we wanted to see.
  • How about the Tate Modern?  Oh, and get an Oyster Pass so you can use the public transportation for less.

The guy in the House of Horrors part of Madame Tussaud's accidentally smacked me in the face with a plastic meat cleaver when he was "stalking" us and I turned around suddenly. I fell to the ground and they turned the lights on to see if I was okay. I was fine. True story.

The Tate Modern and Take Britain were cool, too. We went to St. Paul's one morning, hiked over the Millenium Bridge and went to the Tate Modern after that.

We paid an extra 2-3L each for a 90 minute (maybe 60 minute?) guided tour of Westminster. We got to go to a few places you couldn't go otherwise. It was totally worth it. It was just a lay person who's a member of the congregation and does tours, I guess, but he was really good.

Our guide at the Tower was great, too. We were there for 3 hours and I could have stayed longer. Westminster was 11L admission, I think, and the Tower was 17L, so they were on the pricey side for tourist attractions, but I would go again.

I also recommend the oyster card. It was so convenient and saved money. I think we did 30L on eahc card and we were there for about 5 days. And if you fly into Heathrow, take the express train to Paddington station. It's 15L, but cabs to central London are around 60L and the tube takes an hour.

The castle in Prague had a ton of medieval torture devices. It was pretty awesome. They were displayed in the actual dungeon/tower too.
